I guess this is my fault for commenting in another article that the marine life was returning to NYC waterways and it was better than the waste - This alert was released for recreational users of the Hudson, Harlem and parts of the East Rivers:

From the NT Daily News online article written by staff writers Jennifer H. Cunningham and Edgar Sandoval-

quote:
City officials declared the Hudson River, the East River south of the RFK Bridge and the Harlem River unfit for recreational activity due to raw sewage spilled by a treatment plant fire.

"Right now, there's no impact on public beaches," Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Cas Holloway said. "However, you should not be doing contact recreation on the Hudson River."

People splashing in the tainted water risk vomiting, diarrhea and fever. The warning to avoid the waterways is in effect through at least Sunday, officials said.

Regarding the provided link - The Headline of the article reads "Hudson River, Harlem River, part of East River not fit for recreational activity after sewage spill"... you gotta love data dinks and their sense of humor:

Soooooo, How many gallons of raw sewage was deliberatly pumped into this wasteway? Where is the emergency response? How is the clean up operation going? This is just as dangerous as an oil spill, but we just shrug and say "oh well". The folks responsible for this incident should have to appear before congress, and a root cause investigation should be performed.
Oh wait! forgot, this was an accident and spill at a GOVERNMENT run facility! Never mind. No CNN coverage needed.

wow- this wasn't meant as a political commentary, but with that said, I wouldn't mind seeing His Honor be the first to canoe through...
