Getting ready to [buy] a 2000 22 Dauntless with trailer and 250-HP Yamaha. The motor has 75-hours on the 2004 power head and the lower unit is a 2000 with 240 hours. The purchase includes a 15-HP Yamaha kicker all integrated into dual throttle system. Complete cushion package, depth finder, and GPS included. The entire boat has 240 hours.

What I am giving up is my 1977 Outrage 21. Just wanted to make sure from the Dauntless owners this boat is a great as I think it is, and that I will be happy. Replacing a classic 21-foot that I have owned for 15 years is a difficult decision. [Will] this boat turn heads? Please let me know your thoughts.

I say go for it: your family will love the comfort package, I love the comfort package and every time we go out on an Outrage 220 or similar I want one. Does it have a head in the console? Plus your 21 is is awesome and will make a terrific boat for someone, you are so meticulous about your boats. I saw my friend Dale towing his 71 rib side Friday afternoon down Shoreline getting ready for his annual camping trip and it looked like a freaking aircraft carrier.

Man, you should be able to put that Dauntless in Lake Michigan and go to Beaver or Sleeping Bear no problem. OR across. I know something like that is in our future, bigger Outrage or Revenge. I hope someone on CW who owns one answers your questions.

Best of luck, send some photos.

Thanks Pete - I am hoping a couple of the Dauntless owners offer their thoughts.

When I was choosing my current boat 3 years ago, the owner of the San Francisco Bay Area Boston Whaler dealership told me that the favorite hull for local bay chop in the 21-22 foot range among his customers was the 22 ft Dauntless over the 21 foot Outrage. He was surprised about that.

Hey crew - Ben's a great guy, sold us our Classic 13 some years ago, we've stayed in touch ever since.

He wound up with Jeff's family's 15 a while back, decided to sell it and like a Whaler Man and a Gentleman he gave Jeff first shot at a boat that was clearly important to Jeff and his fam and at a terrific price. He's thinking real hard about whether to let his 70s Outrage (awesome boat) go for a 22 Dauntless that I'm sure his young fam would really dig.

How about jumping in with some testimonials and wisdom for one of our Whaler pals????

Anyone else?

Where will you use it? There is a dauntless 22 on a trailer right next to an outrage 24 with my outrage 22 on the other side.

The dauntless 22 is definitely the smallest boat, though the inside looks way more comfortable. The outrage 24 is huge by comparison, looks like twice the boat.

The dauntless 22 is a really nice boat, IMHO. Maybe not a suited to big water as the 22 outrage due to the lower bow and freeboard, but great for inland lakes or sheltered waters.

Hi Ben,
I have that same boat. It is the first and only boat I have ever owned and I have had it for seven years now.
I use it in the Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf or Mexico. I think it is appropriately named "Dauntless" because it will go anywhere, do anything.
I can get it in very shallow bay water and I am very comfortable taking it 10 miles off shore. It is great for fishing, can water ski, and my girls like sun bathing on the bow at anchor.
Now, it does have a tendency to pound me in rough chop or larger swells. I would suggest taking it for a ride in those conditions before buying it, because I sometimes think I should have bought an Outrage based on what I read here.
If you do test drive it, please tell me what you think compared to the Outrage.

Ben, your profile says "Fishing,kids".

these are pretty opposing needs for a boat.
From your long experience with your current Outrage you should be able to decide if giving up the interior deck space in favor of seating is a good tradeoff for you.

I have a 200 Dauntless which is , except for length, the same "floor plan" as the 22 foot Dauntless.

We have a porta-potty in the console, which for a six footer requires contortionist skills. It has never been used. the console on the 22 ft Dauntless is much roomier.

Although I miss standing access to the transom when fishing, that crossways stern seat that folds up from "deck" configuration offers massive seating space when the family is aboard.

Yesterday we had 10 persons aboard for a trip to the beach, 5 adults and 5 kids. there was plenty of seating for everyone for the long trip up on plane to the beach. when we got to the beach, the 4 year olds could hop off the bow onto the sand (no bow rail) and play pirate games in and out of the boat for hours.

That's why I chose a Dauntless over an Outrage.

You ask "will this 22 foot Dauntless turn heads?"

I don't know what it takes to turn heads where you live. Here, I get compliments like "Hey, Niiice boat!!!" all the time, which would mean absolutely nothing to me if the boat wasn't doing what I wanted. It is.
