This weekend will be the first weekend of the last seven that I have not dedicated the entire weekend to the boat. I am a bit worried about withdrawal symptoms. I promised I would help with chores around the house this weekend. I hope I can make it through without a relapse.

You ought to try a summer without a Boston Whaler. Debilitating to say the least. |

Now you understand why CW is visited daily by so many of us Whaler junkies. It's kind of like a support group for those of us that realize we have a problem, and don't want to do anything about it, just need more Whalers. Kind of like crack, without the nasty side effects. Probably costs about the same... |

Take a vacation day to do the chores....wasting a boating weekend in the north is blasphemy. |

I went through the last 3 years without a whaler-Never again! I am back this year. I am getting ready to take the family on a 30 mile run down to Chicago for the annual Air and Water Show.I am pretty excited to get out there. The weather is perfect for boating today. Hope to see some of you members there today! |

Timely topic. I recently sold my Whaler, first time in 60 years I have not owned a boat. After sellers remorse, and a few months of not having to worry about or work on the boat, all was good, I was able to use/fish on friends boats, and all was good. I started all the left over tasks and honey do's demands, but something was missing. Then someone posted a quick link to JAX MASH, a quick and easy link to boats on Craigs list, now I search every other day for a deal on a small Whaler, I guess I need a boat in my life to care for or to say I need to work on or get it ready for our next trip. |

I get really good Cold Turkey once a year.....usually the day after Thanksgiving. I usually slice it as thin as I can, and make a sandwich, with some bacon, tomato, lettuce and mayo..... |

Do what Obama does on those very rare weekends that he has to stay 'home' and can't get to the links - throw yourself a house party! Invite all your favorite people to come over to your house and play games there. And then have someone else come to clean up and claim your helping the economy through job creation (or maybe that falls under 'jobs saved' - I don't know, but it definitely could put gas in someone's Whaler, so think of all the good you could be doing by just staying home and partying instead). |

My Outrage 18's been in the shop getting a nip and a tuck for the last four weeks. These were things that I had decided that I was going to do when I bought her two months ago, but still, suffering from separation anxiety and it's driving me crazy. She should be done this week, though. |

So, how did it go? Did you get the chores done, or were you so distracted thinking about how you should be on the boat that you need to devote another weekend to the house... |

I was making progress on the chore list, but on Saturday a very intense line of thunderstorms swept through about 5 p.m., taking down several big tree limbs in my neighborhood and putting two phases of the 4,800-VAC primary distribution on the ground in the rear of the lot of my neighbor two-doors south. There was a spectacular plasma display of arcing at the pole transformer near by, and the lines on the ground were barking and arcing for hours. Of course, all power went out on our block. We burned through most of our candles that night. The local cable company came out at 6 a.m. on Sunday morning to put a generator in the rear of my property to run their cable system equipment that is on a pole back there. The generator noise woke me up. The generator was much larger than they needed for their equipment, and it had a nice 120-VAC outlet. I ran an extension cord into the house and plugged in the refrigerator. We saved our food from defrosting. After 22 hours of no power, on Sunday about 3 p.m., our power was restored. I was glad the boat was not around. There were tree branches coming down all around us. Fortunately we did not lose any big limbs. The damage was confined mainly to about two-doors down the street. It must have been a micro-burst. The poor neighhbor down there had bigger electrical problems. I think the primary line fell onto their service cable drop, putting the 4,800-VAC into their ground lead. The service entrance ground was not up to the task, and it appeared that the voltage on their neutral probably rose quite a bit. Their range and oven were charred and smoking. We did not have any electrical damage. Our service drop comes off a pole about 300-feet way from the dropped primary, and that pole had three large ground leads coming down to three large ground stakes. That probably saved us from harm. I interpret the thunderstorms as an omen meaning it is not good to ignore the boat in the summer. |

I'm into my 4th summer without a boat. It is hell but I'm getting used to it. I've missed this forum almost as much as the boat. Hope you are all safe during this hurricane.Jason |
