I live in Italy where there we still have a very large number of classic whalers running about.

In particular we have a lot of 25's that were all modified by the italian importer.

The story is really interesting / amusing.
Back in the late 80's when the importer tried to sell the 25 as is/was he had a really hard time. It was a great fishing machine. Customers loved it but for some reason they would not buy. One day one of his customers came to look at a '25 escorted by his wife. The importer overheard the following comment by the wife of the prospective buyer: "Honey it is a beautiful boat! But there is nowhere to lay out to sunbathe!"
Being a smart fellow and understanding that in the end it was the wives that had the last word he had a brilliant idea.
He modified the bow area building a very large "sundeck". Plus he added an anchor with an electric windlass for easy anchoring in the numerous and beautiful coves along the italian coast. It was an instant success! And a long running one too. I now own one of those modified Outrage '25. Just in the small marina where I keep it there are 4 and all beautifully kept.

Another heavy mod I have seen is the one made to some '27s.
To my knowledge the 27 never came as a CC. But apparently a shipyard up north buys old '27 cuddy and modifies them. See the following link of a modified 27 on sale, pretty amazing!

That is a beautiful Whaler. I wish they listed the price. Plenty of room to make both husband and wife happy. Thanks for posting.

Wow! What a beast of a center console boat. It makes the super console look tiny. And what a massive sun lounger. I would love to see it with the massive bimini tops up. But the wood looks bare. It needs some oil or varnish.

The outfitter of this 27 is may likely be Italian based Marine Union who is/was known for building their own 18 Outrage S.D.L. (Sun Deck Lounge) as well as other modified Whalers.

A client of mine who lives in Torino has a couple friends with 22's and 25's that have been outfitted with the large forward lounge decks by Marine Union just as this 27.

While on modified 27' Whalers, a few years ago there was a 27' Whaler Center Console Cuddy for sale in France. The boat was heavily modified with large on deck lounge areas, had a teak deck and was painted flag blue on the exterior. The most extensive modification was the hull was sectioned and stretched to just over 36'.

Wow it is nice but, 85,000 Euro? Which comes to about $122,000. Looks like the economy there is doing well.

Do you think this PNW boat is one?

Ok, after going back and looking at my 1992 catalog you can see the boat listed for sale above on page 12 - 13. It is shown as the last boat in the row with Yamaha's on the Whaler drive at the Portifino Owners Convention photo. After blowing that image up in photoshop there are four distinctive things I notice on both these boats that makes me believe they are the same boat (can you spot them?).

So, if that boat was around in say 1991 to be photographed and shown in a 1992 catalog in the same configuration as it is today, it had to have been modified soon after it was built. After thinking about it though I doubt someone hacked up a Center Console Cuddy to make that boat. With the bow deck / gunnel as it is, I would say it must have been custom ordered as a 27 Guardian Whaler Drive and refit with the forward deck. Thus it really is not that modified.

That boat must fly with twin 250's! Yes Jeff I think you are right about it as a 27 Guardian.
