Time to cash in...

Many years ago I began fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, mostly because I was a participant in the Leukemia Cup sailboat regatta, (I'm also an avid sailor) but also because it was a good cause and my good friend Ian was the fundraising chairman. Ok...it was also one hell of a party afterward! After five years of raising funds together to battle Leukemia... (you guessed it) two years ago Ian was diagnosed with Leukemia. It got personal. Last year I managed to bamboozle a corporate matching grant.

This year, I was able to get a corporate matching grant and a private fund matching grant to triple individual donations. We raised $1500 in a matter of days. My private fund is exhausted, but my corporate sponsor has extended its matching funds an additional $500.

I'm $275 short for the matching funds, and I hate leaving money on the table. Jeff Rohlfing gave me a VERY generous donation, and it got me to thinking...Let's all blame Jeff for this unabashed plea.

Soooo. Here's the secure link to donate.

Friday night is the deadline. Time is short, and any donation up to the remaining $275 fund will be matched 2:1, then it'll be a straight donation after that, but I'm still calling in all favors. I also have a bunch of Rod Tubes left over in my garage (hint hint)

Come on...ask Warren (WT), when's the last time you got 2;1 on your money?!?!

Oh, and to make this Whaler relevant...I like whalers. Give me your money :-)

Ah! It's all my fault. Thanks Rob.

I gave what I could for a good cause (and before knowing about a rod tube offer :P).

All kidding aside, Good luck in the Regatta and thanks for doing some good for others.

Just purchased your bow seat and can meet you in SF on Sunday!

As an aside, I would like to add that before I invented great products like the Stern Saver and started my construction company in 2005, I spent most of my life working as an immuno-chemist for my parents company, Caltag Laboratories Inc in South San Francisco, CA. We made the reagents used for leukemia research. In fact, my mother, Helga Johnson was the first female CEO of a biotech company in the USA and founded two biotech companies before she passed in 2005. Caltag was her second company. She founded her companies based on a technology (affinity isolation of antibodies) she developed while working under the highly published UCSF immunology professor Dr.Feudenberg. Her entire career was dedicated to making the reagents used in leukemia, cancer, AIDS and various other research fields. Leukemia, however was our focus. I received my degree in Microbiology from UC Davis and am the only one in the world alive who she shared her secrets with. I spent 14 years of my life working at a lab bench developing, manufacturing and purifying the antibodies used in research today to fight these terrible diseases.

Screwin' around as usual, Rob. What last email?...the not-altogether-pleasant one you sent me a couple of years ago when, within a month or so of your writing my sailboat's insurance policy, I made a substantial claim?

Thanks for doing this important work, old bud. We almost lost the 19-yr-old daughter of my wife's best friend to lymphoma four or five years ago...she's fine now, because of the incredible work done over the past decade thanks in great part to donation projects such as yours.

Wish I could be back for the regatta--hey, that's an Italian word, I reckon ;-) Have fun, and thanks again to all involved.

Tony

Wow, thanks for the donations! Keep 'em rollin' in!

Tony, the e-mail was, in fact, blackmail threatening to publicly out you for said incident...you beat me to the punch by donating before I was able to send it, AND NOW, thanks to your last post, I got nothing left on you. Dang ;-)

Scott, thanks for stepping up to the plate and for fighting the good fight. Your contribution, both past and present, have undoubtedly helped (and I'm not talking about the sternsaver!) I'll shoot you my cell number later this morning!

Better late than never.

I just got home and had to cut our vacation short by three days. Hawaiian Air charged my wife and me $1,000 to fly home early. Nice guys.

Warren
