As summer is coming to an end in Northern California, I got a few shots of the 13. The girls love to water ski the course behind it even though it will only go about 27 mph just off full throttle pulling a skiier but the flat wake is hard to beat.

Does anybody know if there is going to be a 2012 Whaler calander?

Awesome pics! Those girls look like they can really hook some turns!

How powerful is the motor? Is it a 40hp? It's hard to tell in your pictures.

Great action pictures of a classic 13 footer. I think either of those pics could be on a calender. I don't recall seeing classics an a calender put out by Whaler, but if Jeff makes another one I think he would use one on them.
BTW I don't see many folks water skiing nowadays, thats all we did when I was young. Maybe becuase skiing takes time to learn and some skill, nowadays folks just sit in tubes, no learning time, anyone could do it, but not the personal satisfaction that a good skier gets. we used to ski behind a 13 footer with a 25, but those old motors made a lot more torque.

Sixty years ago we skied behind a 13 Whaler powered by a 40hp Johnson. All the power one needed -even on a slalom.

Binks! Agreed 100%. In the same way that my girl will watch TV _after_ she has finished her homework, she will mess around with brainless, skill'less things like tubes, only _after_ she has worked at and made progress at, things that take strength, balance, and coordination, like surfing, or water skiing or wake boarding. She's not even two yet though.

Thanks for the comments. Jeff's calendar was the one I was referring to and I am hoping he will do another for 2012.

The motor on the 13 is a Honda BF 35.

Here are a few more skiing pictures taken behind the 1988 Outrage 18. You can see the wake is fairly flat at 31.5 mph. We get the best (smallest) wake out of the 13 when the tank is 1/4 full and with only the driver and the observer up front. I especially like the first picture with the wake coming off of the ski. And yes, water skiing does take a lot of work and diligence (as opposed to tubing!)

Great pics. I taught a number of people how to water ski on my Sport 13' with 35 Merc....Thanks for sharing!

In 1966, my older brother (13), sister (11), and I (12) bought our first Whaler (with Dad's help) - a 1963 13' Sport with an 18 Johnson. The 18 was a dog so we upgraded to a 33 and it was a great ski boat for years. We learned to slalom behind her and it was a great time.

Alas, we boys grew bigger and could soon pull the 13 around quite a bit with big cuts (even using a bridle) and the 13 was replaced with another flat wake boat in 1981 - a 196 Aquasport Osprey with a a 150 hp Black Max Merc - and that was a GREAT ski boat.

jimp: did exactly the same thing we had a 1962 13 Whaler and put an 1966 33 Evinrude on it (had to up grade the same). We were the same age and I remember, we got to be very strong skiers, we could stop the whaler doing the big hard cuts, I just think the boat was to light for us. We move up to a larger boat but then got into diving and put the skis aside...
