Next to my house a Texaco station just put out a sign for ethanol-free fuel. I checked it out: Regular 87-octane [with] 10-percent ethanaol is $3.30; a new pump with a green hose for 90-octane no-ethanol for $3.99. Is life getting better? |

That is good news. Things are looking up here in the PNW also. There are 2 non-marine stations with Ethonal free gas within 8 miles of our home. |

I live in a small town in the foothills of North Carolina and one small station sells 93 octane non-ethanol fuel at $3.96 per gallon. NC is ranked 14th highest in gasoline taxes by state. It is quite a hit to run this in my two classic cars, various pieces of lawn equipment and the Mercury on my Whaler with the 81 gallon internal tank.I curse the government every time I fill em' up. |

In Michigan there are many on-the-water gasoline retailers (usually marina fuel docks) that offer Recreation-90 or REC-90, a non-ethanol 90-octane gasoline fuel. I have not seen any sellers of REC-90 on the highway or any other grade of ethanol-free gasoline. In Michigan a few years ago our then governor Jennifer Granholm signed into law a bill that removed labeling requirements for gasoline containing ethanol if the ethanol content was ten-percent or less. Since that sell-out to the ethanol producers and their lobbyists, retail gasoline customers in Michigan have had no idea what sort of gasoline they're buying. It makes no sense to me. We have labels that warn buyers there are peanuts in peanut butter, but our government rescinds a long-standing law requiring gasoline fuels to be clearly labeled if they have been diluted with Ethanol. The only interest served by that non-disclosure is the interest of the Ethanol producers, and not the interest of the people buying gasoline, for sure. |

In North Carolina is also not required to post the stickers on the pump. It is my understanding that the ethanol is added at the distributor level. Reminds we of baking a cake.....did I put in the proper amount of baking soda prior to the phone ringing and the baby crying? Actual ethanol content varies by pump. |

There are no ethanol free pumps in Mass. What's more, I believe the few marina's that sell Valvtech marine fuel still have to add the 10% ethanol to their mix. The only New England state that seems to have pure gas is NH. |

I can't buy ethanol-free gasoline here in California. So I figure if I can't buy gasoline without them, maybe maybe I should bet with them. I know most of you guys hate ethanol but maybe symbol PEIX can make you a few bucks. I bet some play money on this penny stock last week at 34 cents, and hopefully it'll run to $1. Do your own research or ask your advisor. Google Pacific Ethanol for recent news. Good luck, Warren

Doug - one is close to you, near Shelton, at Kamilche Trading Post by Highway 101. The other is CFN - Acme Fuel in Olympia at both the Lilly Road and downtown @ Thurston and Adams Street stations. |

Jimh makes a good point about labeling laws in Michigan. The Marathon station near me (a family owned station, full serve only, tow trucks and a complete service garage) is now carrying eth-free fuel. I suspect they are marketing to boaters and to the local all volunteer fire dept. I work in Toledo, which has 2 refineries and no conventional fuel outlets! |

A little off-topic but slightly related: A new station called AmeriGreen just came into our town. I'm pretty excited about it because they sell 100% American fuel...not sure if it's ethanol free, but that would be the icing on the cake. The only ethanol free station in our area quit selling gas. The owner said they were going to eventually outlaw straight gas and mandate the 10-15% ethanol. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Here's a brilliant idea: Let's burn up our food supply, use "endless" tax dollars for ethanol subsidies, while Sounds like an idea that came from the government. Thanks guys! |

I am obsessed with NOT using ethanol enhanced fuels in my older vehicles and outboard as well as my expensive lawn equipment. I currenty use Starbrite Startron and have used Stabil Marine formula in my fuel mostly to increase the shelf life of the fuel. Startron claims to "cure" ethanol problems. Are there any Chemical Engineers here that can put their two cents in regarding these claims to "cure" or "alleviate" the issue with these additives? |

Doug - Acme Fuel (CFN) in Olympia is available to anyone with Visa/MC. They have a discount card available for a 5 cent/gallon discount. I believe Acme has Ethanol-free gas in 89 and 91 octane depending on location. I think the Shelton Kamilche Trading Post is 87 octane. |

I drove over an hour to PA to get some but the price was .50 more than it said online. (wasn't updated apparently) Didn't seem to be worth the extra cost but now I wish I had bought some at least for my small motors. Chain saw, hedge trimmer, lawn tractor, generator, 6 hp Yamaha 2 stroke...oh well. |

If you're nowhere near an ethanol free pump, and need small quantities of ethanol free gasoline, there is a solution. I keep an emergency can of this in the trunks of all our cars, not because it's ethanol free, but because of the long shelf life: I also have a few cans of the 40:1 premix variety in the garage for leafblower and snowblower refueling convenience: |

Tom, I have not been over the the casino side of the highway lately. At one time they did not carry straight gas. Gary, thanks for the information concerning the CFN now taking Visa, etc. Doug |
