I took some pic's of my Outrage yesterday to send to Lionheart as he starts work on his new-to-him 1971 model, as a source for rigging tips. I thought others here might be interested as well in the windscreen arrangement I had made for my boat.

I have a windscreen that drops from the 2nd bow of my four-bow bimini top, down to the console rail where it snaps in place. This gives me more protection from wind & rain than I get with the low windscreen that comes on these boats. When not in use, this second windscreen rolls up into a canvas sleeve & fits in the console.

Here are 12 pic's of the boat, showing the console with & without the drop down windscreen in place. There are a few other random shots of the console & also the fuel tank switch arrangement I installed:

I know the Mills "flying top" that came on these boats from the factory had a windscreen that connected to a forward shelter, but here in Florida I wanted a bigger bimini than that, and I don't need the forward shelter...so this is an alternative solution. This would work on any boat with a sturdy bimini top, as long as a one of the metal bows was positioned over the console.

John,

Stunning. You are one of the lucky 21 Ribside owners, I envy your boat...one day I hope to have one.

Jeff, thanks for the compliment, it's a great boat. The wood on these boats really comes to life with varnish. I redid the boat in 2004-5, more work than I anticipated but I'm happy with it.

John -

She is a beauty. While I have seen thousands of members boats, there only a few as nice as yours. She is right up there with Larry's fleet.

Kudos for the windscreen design; simple and effective. Wow.

Beautiful museum quality. Is that a Suzuki DF140 bolted to the transom?

Thanks for the compliments on the boat, I really appreciate it. I posted pics here when I redid the boat in 2004-5, and again when I repowered in 2007. Those old pics are here if anyone's interested:

egres, the stern seat arrangement is the original setup on the 1971 "Outrage I" model, before they developed the RPS used on later boats. I tried to keep things as original as possible, all woodwork was refinished but is otherwise original. The seat itself was shot when I got the boat, I had a custom shop build a new one using the original as a template. jimh has pics of this arrangement on a sistership on p36 of the Cetacea section of this site. The teak drop-leaf table/seat looks cool but isn't very practical; to access the cooler section below it, you have to remove one section of teak, unlatch the piece the seat mounts to, and tilt the whole arrangement forward on hinges...not very convenient if you have your cold drinks under there. On the other hand, it's good for storing stuff you don't need quick access to, and the seat on top is very comfortable & practical.

elaelap, the motor is the DF150, which has been a great performer although probably more than the boat needs.

I rebuilt the front deck from the underside with plywood, epoxy & glass...the original balsa core there was rotted. It is now solid as a rock. Otherwise, no structural problems existed & work was mostly cosmetic. I chose to remove the bow rail (which I still have), as it was in the way in flats fishing, anchoring & in beaching the boat. This was a south Florida boat & the sun had badly deteriorated the gelcoat; after much sanding & prep work, I had the boat professionally Awlgripped. The paint has held up well & I've been pleased with that decision. The bronze fittings on rails, etc were re-chromed, the boat was rewired, new fuel tanks & hoses, new steering, new rub rail, barrier coat, bottom paint, many coats of varnish, etc.

I spent a ton on canvas: the custom stainless bimini, Mills windscreen, covers for the console & helm seat, and a full boat cover as well, but keeping the wood covered out of the sun has made maintenance much easier; I have done varnish maintenance coats only once, two years ago, since my initial varnish work.

I can tell you the help & advice I received from people on this site was a huge help in this project when I did it. Thanks again for the compliments on the boat.
