Seems to me I've heard U-Ship mentioned here on CW for transporting Whalers from one venue to another.....At any rate I'm watching "Shipping Wars" on A&E this evening, a reality show on the private transporters U-Ship contracts (by auction) to move shipments....all I can say is "Holy Shit, meet your shipper before you send anything with them..... I've used U ship before and can't say enough good things about them. Also the outboard arrived undamaged which was a first for me. |

Binkster, I'm sure you did, and probably many others have too, I was just kind of taken back, the people on this show that were bidding for U-Ship contracts left a little to be desired..... they seemed totally unorganized & flyin by the seat of their pants...if you get a chance tune in you'll see what I meanPat |

I've also used U-Ship. It was an entirely positive experience for me.BUT You must first realize it's limitations. It is VERY much a caveat emptor situation. U-Ship is nothing more than a virtual bulletin board where you can post up your shipping needs, and anyone who is interested can respond if they want to transport your item. You may get a fly-by-night dirtbag or a straight shooter. It's up to you to interview the guy and decide for yourself. My guy was excellent. Responsive to communications, the lack of which is one of my pet peeves. When I was shopping for a Montauk, I walked away from promising looking boats when the seller responded to my detailed emails with one word answers. I have retained his personal contact info, in case I ever needed to ship something again. That way, I can bypass U-Ship's (10%) cut next time. Another appealing thing about my guy... If I was not in a hurry, (and I wasn't), he would wait to plan an itinerary for his "road trip" that involved multiple pickups an dropoffs as to maximize his time minimize his unit costs. I saved a bundle. -Peter |

What Peter said is right. You must do your own research and interview.I used U Ship twice and was very pleased with cross country moves completed on time,no damage,no excuses, contact whenever I wanted to the driver, or they called me every four hours during the trip. Chuck |

It's a very competitive industry where some stick their necks out a little too far to get the job.I think you just be more careful with the carrier who provides the lowest price. Alot of the time it boils down to insurance. Does their quote include the insurance through the whole procedure. ie. pick up at a foreign depot and to your home. I found the more expensive big name competitors were able to justify their high price in this regard. Some times it's about paying for what you get, however I like to get a good deal and risk going with the smaller guy who has experience. |

They can make a television show about anything. |

What ever happened to the Actors Guild, where actors were paid union wages. Now they can take some yahoos off the street, make a show around them, pay them little or nothing, and other people will watch. The reason people will watch is that they seem to like to see other dumbasses just like themselves. I rather spend my TV time on CW. I don't even know why I have a TV.

I am very pleased with U-Ship. It's a great service. The folks we've dealt have been good, honest people doing work for a fair price. My guess is some of these TV shows manufacture drama for excitement.
