I`m going to be in Vancouver the first week of Feb. and plan to drive down and spend 3 or 4 days in Seattle at the Boat Show.
Hopefully all the snow they had been getting will be gone!

The last time I was there was about 15 years ago. The Show was in the old Dome Stadium. 25 years ago when I lived in Vancouver we`d go down on weekends to watch the Super Sonics, visit the pubs, and shop at Pike Place and the old downtown REI, Filson`s etc.We always had a good time.

Does anyone have any advice for the Boat Show and related events?
Local flavor restaurants ( I`ve read up on a few of the Tom Douglas seafood places)?
Marina`s/waterfront pubs?
Boating/fishing supply stores?
Hotels?

Thanks Ken.

Hi Ken,
I am pretty new to the power boating world, but I have found Fisheries Supply Co on Northlake to be a facinating place to browse (north side of Lake Union, which is one of the boat show's locations).

Another interesting place to visit would be Fisherman's Terminal. The main building houses Chinook's, which is an excellent value seafood restaurant with great views of the boat docks. The terminal used to be exclusively for working boats of the Seattle fishing fleet, but a number of years they eased that restriction such that there is a mix of work and pleasure craft. It also has a nice seafood market (the Wild Salmon) that sells fresh as well as packs for shipping.

You might also want to take a drive on as much of the Alaska Way Viaduct as is open/left. Nice views of Elliot Bay. They are tearing it down and replacing with a tunnel. I'm sure you wouldn't be so unlucky as to have an earthquake hit while you were on it :)

Enjoy Seattle and the Boat Show.

Dennis

Fisheries Supply is my go to chandlery in Seattle. Tons of stuff and interesting browsing.

The Ballard Locks can be interesting. I went through twice a few weeks ago and there wasn't much recreational traffic but quite a bit of commercial traffic.

Bell Harbor is a small marina right in downtown Seattle that you can see from the waterfront. Anthony's restaurant is pretty good and has a view of Elliott Bay and Bell Harbor. Ivar's is inexpensive and on the waterfront as well. I stayed there a few weeks ago for a night, here's a picture of the sunset from the marina:

Elliott Bay Marina is big and not too far from downtown. If you stopped by the office and explained you wanted to wander the docks they might give you the code to get onto the docks.

Bainbridge Island is a short ferry ride from downtown which can be fun. Again, if you stop by the marina office in Eagle Harbor the harbormaster might give you the code to wander the docks.

The in water portion of the show takes place on Lake Union and there are tons of marinas and marine related businesses in the area.

The view of downtown Seattle from Alki at night is spectacular and there are some restaurants in the area. Also a nice place for a walk. Here's the view from Alki:

One more thing...I think there is a water taxi that runs from downtown Seattle to Alki. I have no idea what the schedule is like or what it costs, but I tied up to their dock to take the picture from Alki and if you don't have a car it might be a good way to get over to Alki.

I attended the opening of the Seattle Boat Show last night.
The event was very well attended and it looks like a number of dealers really went "all out". Meaning there was alot to see and something there for everyone. For me it's like being in a candy store and it really was overwhelming.
Whaler was very well represented and it appeared there was quite alot of attention being payed to the new 21 Montauk.
It is an impressive battleship and they had it rigged with a 200 Verado. My only concern is that the transom design doesn't make room for easy addition of a kicker motor. The old 18 Outrage is my "transom design of choice". But otherwise, it appears that the old 18 Outrage would easily fit "inside" the new Montauk.
There was a large Whaler with triple 250 Verados......holy cow......so over the top!!

The transome of the 210 Montauk was designed so a kicker bracket can be installed. There is a wide combing aft that can be accessed from the storage below the seat for through bolting the bracket on the starboard side of the transom.
