Does anyone have experience with running a 19 foot justice with 115 HP 2 stroke? I have an offer in on a surplussed 19 from the fish and wildlife service. It's rated for 90-150 and I was looking at putting a 115 2 stroke Evinrude on it.

Is the 19 justice the same hull as the classic 18 outrage? I sold my old outrage to someone who repowered it with a 115 etec and I myself would consider a 115 if the time comes to repower my current 18/19 outrage. He upgraded from an older 140 v4 johnson and was happy with it's performance. He lives in virginia and boats mainly in the chesapeake if I recall correctly.
The only catch for me is the 25" shaft extension. The guy who repowered my old boat sent me a picture and there appeared to be an awkward looking 5" shaft extension piece added in to increase the motor to a 25" shaft from a 20". I do not particularly care for the looks of these and have seen other brands do the same such as with the yamaha 150 4stroke and the old mercury 30" shaft big block v6 models. I have seen pictures on the internet of the 115 etec with and without this added coupling piece for the 25" shaft length. Maybe it has somethoing to do with a dealer installed adapter coupler to sell a 20" converted engine from thier current existing stock.
The 18/19 foot hulls are rated at 150 max hp and perform quite well with these powerful engines but I think that a lightweight 115 etec will perform well also and is probably at the bottom end for optimal performance. Today many competitors have 18 foot hulls which weigh more than the older whaler hulls rated/ mated with 115 4strokes and they seem to be quite acceptable to the customer base. I think if the price difference between a 150 and a 115 is less than $2k I wiuld have to think long and hard about NOT choosing the 150.

The boat has 30% more glass than a standard 19 footer. This was the Law enforcement version of a 19 hull. It has some nice features including extra in deck storage on port and starboard sides. Also 2 forward lockers for anchor and or additional gear. The leaning post/pilot seat has a rectangle storage area with pelx. sliding doors. That's about 24x24 and about 8 inches deep. Also two rear quarter storage ares for oil tank and battery. The hull weighs in at 1900 lbs whcih is about what is listed for a 18/19 outrage. Most of my running will be in the lower speed range. I don't fish so it' snot trolling but also not usually plaining speed. I was quoted 11.5K of a 115 w/ 25" lower unit, 13.5K for a 130 and 14.5K for a 150. I'll need to sell my classic 16 Nauset before I can arrange for an engine so it probably won't be until the end of the season before I can do that.

Wow, those prices are higher than I would have expected. I was thinking the 150 would be around the $11k range not the 115. I'm also surprised that the delta between the 115 and 130 is larger than that between the 130 and 150. I'm thinking that the justice is built from a newer 19 outrage model, do you have any pictures? The 115 might be on the lower side of the performance for that heavier hull.

If it is a Justice it would be off the post classic Accutrac Hull Design and not the Dougherty Classic design. After sea trailing a post classic Outrage 17 with a 150 Mercury Optimax I would say that 130 would be the minimum I would want on that 17' hull. With yours being the 19' version with the added weight of being build to commercial specs you will want to have all the power you can get for good open water and offshore use. If you are just planning on using it on inland lakes and very near shore uses you might be able to get away with a 130.

No matter what your plans though, down the road you will have a real tough time selling a boat like that with a 115 and even with a 130 a good portion of potential buyers may pass because they would want a 150.

If all the Mercury controls are in good shape - you might want to look at a left-over Mercury engine at Basspro Shops... the one in FT. Myers has a new left-over 2008 Optimax 150XL 25" shaft for $8,900.
