[H]ow many 13-foot hulls where produced in 1958? [I] am curious what was the last 1958 stencil [number]. Thanks |

You will likely not be able to find that out as according to Chuck Bennett at Whaler their, records of those early production years are not very complete. Why are you looking for this information any how? Just trying to expound on what it is you need. |

You can find the information you are seeking in the REFERENCE section. Here is a hyperlink to the article you will want to read: |

I used to own 1958 hull #110, which was evidently the 11th production boat for sale to the public. I remember reading somewhere, in an article on the history of this 13' hull and beginning of the Company, that in the first year they sold about 100 boats. For an upstart company, that was considered pretty good. Unfortunately, I can't give you any reference to back this up, but I do remember seeing that figure in print. |

As I recall, the information about the production history of the 13-foot hull came to me via Boston Whaler, and I would be surprised if they had a lot more detail available. If they do, I would be glad to append more detail to the 13-foot hull reference article. |

1958 was actually not the year the first 13's ever built. Those were built in 1956ish / 1957 and they have FP (Fisher-Pierce) in the stencil with a rear sump like the images below. They did however, have the Boston Whaler Logos on them. These are shots I took and Tom W Clark has hosted from the Miami Boatshow 2008 showing Steve Karris' 13. I believe it's the oldest known Whaler. http://home.comcast.net/~tomwclark/FP_56_Drain.JPG |

I never saw a 13 with the drain tube exiting the boat to the bottom of the hull. Also, there is no drain tube out of the engine well. The drain tube on my old but similar "standard sport" model went thru to the sump and their was an additional drain tube exiting the engine sump. |

[T]hanks for the replies! [T]he other day [I][']m drivin[g] to the outer banks North Carolina and [I] see this old boat sittin[g] on the side of the road for sale. [I] stopped to check it out, and [I] see "Boston Whaler" on the side. [I] know nothing about boats but [I] do recognize the name and [I] was interested in owning a small boat. So [I] bought the bare hull and trailer for $200. [T]he [seller] couldn[']t tell me much about it. [I] got it home, went on-line, and started readin everything [I] could about [B]oston [W]haler and the 13-footer--found out where to look for the hull [number], went out, and looked. [I]t[']s [i.e., the hull stencil number is] 1092! [S]o [I][']m stoked after all I read about this AMAZING boat! [T]his is a very early one. [I] was hoping to pinpoint the born-on date so [I] didn[']t have to guess when people ask me about it. [I][']m callin it 1959. [The boat] needs to be totally refinished, bit of glass repair, and surely some hull drying in a spot or two in its near future. [I][']m a new fan of Boston Whaler for sure, so glad this boat found me! :). [I am p]lanning on a full resto[ration] with 50th anniversary white rub rails. [T]hanks, again. Jeff do you happen to know the source to point to regarding your statement on the FP boats and the Boston Whaler logo? "1958 was actually not the year the first 13's ever built. Those were built in 1956ish / 1957 and they have FP (Fisher-Pierce) in the stencil with a rear sump like the images below. They did however, have the Boston Whaler Logos on them." I had been told that the 56 and 57's did not have the logo. I don't dispute your comment but any refernces to confirm would be appreciated. Thank you. |
