I was thinking I had not heard from Mike a while. I was very sad to stumble across this obituary from December. Mike was an enthusiastic boat owner and especially enthusiastic about Whalers.

It was always valuable to have this seasoned professional mariner and small business owner participate in our discussions.

Thanks for posting this, Tom. I had also wondered, but it seems folks drop in and out of online 'communities' often without fanfare or explanation. Mike's contributions here will be missed by me, that is for sure.

Rest in peace, Mike.

This is sad. I always enjoyed hearing his "commercial" side of boating. My condolences.

Aw jeez, that is terrible news. Mike had the ability to pass on his knowledge without sounding like a know it all.

I will miss him,

John

Below is a post that Towboater posted last year and one I enjoyed reading. RIP Towboater !

More evidence ships that are restricted in their ability to maneauver have the right of way over ALL Boston Whalers.

This will become a big story in my area, no injuries.
Not Whaler related except that your beloved CW Member here is intimately familiar with the GP dock, freight barges and recently worked that ship.

Odds of hitting that dock...the ONLY dock (200 ft) between Longview and Astoria (45 miles x 2 = 90 miles of shoreline) are about the same as a Tsunami taking out a Nuke plant in Japan.

RIP Towboater, your passing is truly a loss for our Wihaler community. Mike's perspective was unique and I always felt that I learned something when reading his posts. My condolences to his family...

Mike was definately a professional at his trade. His thoughtful comments and his prose will be missed.

He wasn't much older than me....Makes a person think, doesn't it?

I learned a lot from the information that he posted here.
His approach made him a good teacher...straight forward, to the point and never condesending.

I`m sure he`s missed greatly by his friends and family.
Reading this thread, I miss him and I never even met him.

Damn, there just has to be something like the joy of boating and all that brings to us beyond our short time on this planet. God speed Towboater.

Mike contributed a great deal of information based on his years of practical experience, often with a unique perspective.

His technical narrative, I found, was refreshing and always worthy of contemplation.

Bummer, Towboater had plenty of experience and knowledge from being at sea and ashore in the shop that he shared with all.
