Yesterday was some of the best salmon fishing I have ever experienced! I trailered my boat from Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz where I met up with a buddy. We launched at 7:00am and ran toward the Soquel Hole about a mile NE of the the main fishing fleet. We putted around for a few minutes until I marked some bait and dropped the gear. My buddy Khahn was using his infamous "blue dancer" while I used my trusty blue/white kajiki behind a flasher. Within a few minutes we had our first takedown and it was "fish on"! Khahn landed a nice 27" king. After that, the bite got really hot and we got a fish every few minutes including a nice 15lber I caught and got the battle on my GoPro camera. We had limits in less than 30 minutes and all fish bit between 50-60" OTW. Man, I wish it was always this good!

Nice job and great video. Gotta love fast limits, had a day like that last season. Looked like it was going to be a good day out there today as I drove off to work...

Andy- I put the wrong date in the title, should have been 4/16/2012. My buddy in the video is a charter captain and he went again today and said it was wide open again! He had three clients on his boat and they had a couple doubles on today. I can't wait to get back out there!

Andy-You must be referring to the "soldiers club" bite last year. I had one day where I caught my limit in 15 minutes! My two friends who were with me didn't even get their lines in the water before I was done. My first fish came within 1 minute of dropping the gear! That bite was just as hot, but the fish were a little smaller.

Basshole:... You were in the right spot alright! I got the 170 out there before the fleet arrived and fished most all day, and while I certainly saw consistent action, I didn't see nets a'flying non-stop... even the party boats were still out when I left, and on the way back picked up two in about 20 minutes (lost one at the rails) to get my limit. So if'in yer in the right spot then it looks just too easy.... cool video, keep'em coming.. See Ya out on the water... Joe

Nice fish and fun video. Your pal sure keeps his cool...when we (on rare occasion) get a nice one on there's all kinda yellin' and running around, even if I'm fishing solo ;-)

Warming up up here north of S.F., both weather-wise and salmon-wise, but I'm going out of town 'til next week. Nuts!

MosslandingJoe- Your right about that. When we launched, a bunch of other boats launched at the same time. Those same boats didn't come back in till long after we were back and cleaned up. We just got lucky and found a nice school of fish and stayed on them till the job was done. Also, the parking lot was still full when we got back. I will be out Friday and Sunday as well, hopefully we can repeat that good fortune. If you are out there holler at me on channel 11 or 68.

elaelap- That's too funny! What you described would also be normal for my crew too, most of the time. My buddy who was with me this time is a fishing legend, Captain Khahn. He is a commercial fisherman and a charter Captain, and catches more fish in Monterey Bay than anyone. He is so calm b/c for him, it's just another day at the office. If anyone wants to book a trip with him his website is www.northcalsportfishing.com . Hopefully, by the time you get back from your trip, things will be hot up there as well. There are a lot of fish out there right now.

Yep, it was the Soldier's Club bite last year. Fun fishing, and hopefully it will go on for a while.
