120 entries this year average cost to fish the tourney $27800 (covers the cost of the entry fee and expenses). Participants can fish 4 out of the 6 days. Video was taken at the Beaufort Docks (Beaufort NC) on Sunday June 10th. 25 participants/boats were docked at this location. Estimated 35 - 40 mil worth of boats/equipment. http://bluewaterpirate.phanfare.com/5622610 Note: Contestants can fish out of Hatteras/Oregon/Beaufort/Mansonsboro Inlets. Tom |

My former boss in Raleigh has fished this tournament for years and has never seen success but the money has never been a concern for him. I am a bit surprised at the average cost to fish the tourney. So much for seeing a poor fisherman hit the big time. I have alwayd dreamed of seeing the kid with the cane pole win the bass tournament but then I always root for the underdog. |

I suspect that figure includes the calcutta which is optional. However, the calcutta is typically where the big payout comes from. A calcutta is just a form of gambling on fish. |

Several of the boats fishing are charter boats. They usually have the same group of fisherman charter them every year for these tournaments. The charter boats are owner /operators and are far from rich. I fish on the Release and Sea Creature out of Hatteras every year and they are tremendous men and anglers. Sea Creature has one big rock at least once and Release has always been in the money in some of the areas. They split the money bewteen captian/ mate and charter. That being said there sure are a some very nice private vessels fishing with little worries. Big Rock is fun to follow and really entertaining. |

I used to hang out in Beaufort before the Front Street "restoration". I guess its no longer a quaint village. I hope the menhadden plant is still up the creek. Jeff |
