Can anyone tell me the proceedure for winterizing a 2004 Evinrude 150hp direct injection? Specifically, how to fog it? |

Have you read the owner's manual? |

I dont have the manual I am winterizing several older 2 strokes in my neighborhood and a new neighbor asked if he could join the party. He has the direct injection. Any help would be appreciated. |

You fog it the same way as a carb'd 2-stroke -- just spray the fogging oil into the air intakes while it is idling. But make sure that you hold onto the safety lanyard kill switch and yank it to kill the motor if the engine speed increases rapidly (called "running away"). The DFI runs so lean (hotter than a carb'd 2-stroke) that the fogging oil is easier to ignite and that can cause the motor to run uncontrolled under the right circumstances. |

The owner's manual for Evinrude outboard engines usually have instruction for preparing the engine for storage. You can get electronic copies of the operating instructions for Evinrude and Johnson engines from BRP's website at http://www.operatorsguides.brp.com/ The operating guides go back to the 2004 model year. That is about the epoch when BRP took over from OMC, and I presume that's probably related to the availability of the older literature. BRP is a great company for providing literature to their customers, and this on-line operating guide website is a good example of that. |

I should also refer you to my REFERENCE article which lists sources for on-line operating guides or owner's manuals for several brands of outboard engines. You may find my article to be a useful resource when you are seeking information about operating an outboard engine for which you do not have a printed copy of the manual. Refer instead to Outboard Engine Owner's Manuals and you may be able to obtain an electronic copy of the operating manual you need. |

The operator's manual will tell you exactly what I've stated except it will not tell you to keep a hand on the safety lanyard. |
