I am thinking of buying a Shelterlogic portable garage for my Whalers. Before I make the investment, I was wondering if anyone has experience owning one? How do they hold up over time and in cold/snow?

I have two 20' x 12' x8' garage in a box units.
one is on its third MN winter the second is on winter number 2.
I highly recommend them.

In one I have a pick up truck that I am restoring. The second has my Sakonnet, my Squall and my Zodiac (inflated) in it. It is really nice to be able to walk out to the back yard and simply unzip the door and have access to the boats and truck all winter long.
I paid about $300 for each of them. If I have to replace the canvas every 5 years it will still be a good deal.

So far the canvas on both is holding up fine. Make sure you do not have anything touching the canvas. The bow rail was rubbing against the roof this fall and the canvas shows it.

I do rake the snow off just to be safe.

I installed the side vents in the one that has the truck, but since the boats are not inside it during the summer I did not get the vents for the boat tent. Condensation was an issue in the truck tent.

I have the 10'x10' "shed in a box" model on it's second season. The canvas is fairly light weight, but it has held up extremely well. I paid less than $200 at Tractor Supply Company.

You should check your local municipality's code for legal accessory structures; where I live these structures are not permitted. Would you get caught? Who knows, inspectors rarely go looking for stuff like this, but if you have any busy-body neighbors who might complain it could be a problem

Tie it down well, They don't like wind.

I bought one as temporary storage after my shop burnt. It made it about 6 months before a strong wind got under it and pulled all of the stakes out of the ground. Ripped the canvas and bent some of the poles.

As to local codes, many have no restrictions against "temporary structures" such as tents. Strictly speaking the Shelterlogic structures are just tents with metal supports.

In our locality even the Home Depot back yard sheds are considered temporary if the are skid mounted and can be moved. My 12X20 workshop is temporary because it is mounted to 2"X4" skids rather than to a concrete slab.

Your Home Owner's Association may have stricter interpretations and/or restrictions.
