The real question is does being in a whaler make one a smart boater or do smart boaters seem to prefer whalers.....

No, it is not a Whaler. The bow chines are close but not Whaler and the stern corners are rounded...like a Del Quay Dory or some other "Splashed" knock-off hull.

Now that we have some opinions about whether or not a boat that is seen in a video posted on YouTube may or may not be a Boston Whaler boat, exactly where to we go from here? I am curious about the next step in this discussion. We have an opinion that the boat shown in the fragment of the video is not a Boston Whaler boat. What is the implication of this?

The rescue boat looks like a Dell Quay Dory. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dell_Quay_Dory

The discussion in this thread could turn into a discussion on the similarities and differences between a Dell Quay Dory and a Boston Whaler and that the exterior similarities could cause one to mistakenly believe that a Dell Quay is a Boston Whaler. Over the years, I've seen at least a few Dell Quay Dory boats with the Boston Whaler logo applied to the hull in the same place and manner as applied to the similar sized Boston Whaler hull and offered for sale as a Boston Whaler. Only a fool would fall for that fraud.

I think that the direction of this thread will immediately turn into a MERCURY is the best and ETEC is the weakest in HP direction, you know they all seem to go that way eventually!

Something like this:

One GUY- "you see that the skiff has the mariner and although it is not a VERADO it has plenty of power the pull that cabin cruiser, and therefore being a cousin of mercury it is far more superior over an ETEC because if that skiff were powered by an ETEC it would be extermely underpower and unable to assist the larger vessel and mostlikely need assistance it's self"! :>

The Other Guy- "Unless ofcourse an independently rigged skiff of equal hp was in a skiff to skiff tug of war the ETEC would drag the the other mariner powered skiff underwater backwards."

One Guy- "But this would be because how they were both propped, and the humidity that day, and the sun glare on the mariner powered skiff's operators eyes".:<

George loved the humor (especially when you're right) and now that I've seen it on a larger screen yes it isn't a whaler but it pushes pretty good. (didn't pull)

The thread should go that anybody taking out a boat (renting/buying/test driving) should have some kind of schooling and prove he/she can handle the size vessel he or she will be skippering with or without crew (as the crew here wasn't to helpful (at least they kept limbs out of the way)

To many boat owners don't. We had a new boat owner 10 or so years ago that bought a brand new 38 ft twin screw Cruisers w/Flybridge. Dealer brought the boat to the slip on Friday. Backed the boat out the slip and had the owner take over for a leisurely ride down the river onto Lake Michigan and back to the slip, where the dealer took over and landed the boat.

These new owners never boated in their lives. On Saturday with extended family several of us "dockhands" had to basically push "help" him out of his slip. Upon return with the slight river current of 3 knts he ended up putting the first gauche in the brand new fiberglass and bend his pulpit running into the dock until a good Samaritan offered to land the boat for him by crawling on board from a dinghy as he couldn't even get close enough to jump on board.

Sorry to say but he was a laughing stock for many weeks during that summer but by the end he was able to roughly land by himself and his spouse.

EJO when I was viewing the video I cringed when I saw the girl head to the stern to fend off the bridge cason and hoped she did not get any of her body crushed. Thankfully she did not! But still I can't help but believe that if the cruiser was equiped with the new mercury digital control system then the operator would certainly be able to pilot the craft better {;] Unless it were equiped with evinrudes new electronic shifting control system then they would have sunk for sure {:0
