Strong steady wind. Short period 2-3 foot wind swell on Lake Mead late this afternoon. So, I left the 60+mph thoroughbreds in the stable and took out the Clydesdale. It is very reassuring to have a boat that will hold up it's end, if you hold up yours and don't mishandle her.

And on a craggy desert canyon lake Lake like Mead, there's always a calm cove to stop and take a picture in the late afternoon sun:

It's getting warm in the desert so I took the windshield off to get some breeze on my face. Fortunately, CWW member Brian/Fishnff, the previous owner, thought of everything and used stainless wingnuts to hold it on so it was a piece of cake to remove.

It was a short outing, just an hour from splash to recovery on the trailer.

Great photos of a serious boat, Peter. Nice capture of the American flag on the hill beyond as well.

Wish you had some shots of her slogging through seas in addition to these in the calm bay, though I expect they'd be best if a buddy boat photographed you from abeam.

Peter that is quite a CC Brian built Nice pics. Is LM still down considerably. Looking at your pics you now can find rocky/sandy beach instead of just rock. Is it still down by a 100 feet or so?

Good Lord, Center console looks like small version of those things marching the desert in StarWars I.

I have heard of Lake Mead. I didn't realize it was on the Moon though.

Thanks for the compliments, guys.

Yes, Lake Mead is _over_ 100 feet low but usually rising this time of year. Even at 500 feet deep, it's only 55% capacity at 100 feet low. Yep, getting shots under way in those conditions would have been impossible. I was by myself and sawing on the throttle and wheel (Baystar hydraulic). Headway was a crawl--under 10 knots of constant climbing and diving and the occasional hard landing anyway. It was as bad as a bad day on the ocean. Re Lake Mead being mostly rocky coastline... Most of my experience there, which is actually very little as we just bought our lake house a year and a half ago and are not there full time, is in the Boulder Basin of the lake. The west coasts of the Boulder Basin, including where the Hoover Dam is, are mostly sheer rock cliffs. BUT the east coasts are mostly sandy. There are three other lobes or basins in Lake Mead that I am thoroughly unfamiliar with. It's a BIG lake.
