The local newspaper caught some pictures of our boat, a 25' 1986 Revenge (and a 17' Montauk) and Orcas while boating with some out of town guests to a local restaurant [url]http://www.kitsapsun.com/photos/galleries/2013/jun/06/orcas-vist-dyes-inlet/32618/#axzz2VZKVavaa[/url. It is very rare to see these magnificent animals so close to urban areas in Puget Sound. The pictures make it appear that we are closer than we really are.

Thanks, Mike

Thats cool to see the Orcas. Except maybe while you are salmon fishing.

I hate it when I leave the fenders out.

"I hate it when I leave the fenders out." It happens to the best of us.

The great badge of mindless boating. - Peter Barlow, Marine Photographer.

We did not have time pull the fenders. This is a narrow channel and the whales were moving fast. I read that they were a transient pod and hunting seals. Resident pods tend to hunt salmon and move slower. When the whales were coming by we were on the deck of the Boatshed Restaurant waiting for a table and ran down to the dock to jump in the boat. With so little time, we did not care about the fenders. We just wanted to make sure we were able to get good a good view and photographs of the whales. By the way, if you are in town, try the Boatshed because it has excellent food and a big deck overlooking the water.

Hate to poop on the party... But while I understand that the Sinclair and Dyes Inlet are narrow in some places and the excitement of seeing something other than a ferry boat or navy vessel. I am rather shocked at the boats motoring 50' from the whales when state law is 200 yards. -- Good that you got to see them, i saw them from afar as they pasted the Edmonds tanks.

A telephoto lens makes the subjects appear to be MUCH closer that they really are.

kwik_wurk, you might want to look at my initial post more closely or ask questions before you make an assumption of 50 feet. The reporter was using a huge telephoto lens and I was behind more than 200 yards.
