MARKETPLACE is generally not a moderated discussion area, because it is not intended to be a discussion area. Recently it seems that several participants have turned the posting of notices of FOR SALE into discussions.
Please do not use MARKETPLACE for discussions.
Posting articles in reply to notices of FOR SALE which are intended to bring criticism to the seller, his merchandise, or his price should not be considered as part of the normal interaction of the MARKETPLACE.
If participants feel that certain sellers are misrepresenting merchandise or have engaged in frauds, please contact me via email to bring this to my attention.
For many years MARKETPLACE has been able to function with little administration or moderation because it was a place in which gentlemen sold and bought from other gentlemen. Let's try to continue that legacy.

Again, this reminder on the purpose of the MARKETPLACE. It is for posting of notices of For-Sale or of Wanted-To-Buy. It is not for discussions.
Participants who have no real interest in buying an item offered for sale should avoid appending comments to notices of For-Sale which offer advice to the seller, criticism of the seller, or criticism of his merchandise, or in any way initiate discussions on these topics.
The MARKETPLACE has functioned nicely for many years.
Please contact me by email if any further clarification is needed on this policy.

Please do not try to turn MARKETPLACE into a discussion forum. MARKETPLACE is for posting notices of FOR-SALE or notices of WANTED-TO-BUY, or for requests for appraisals of individual boats.

I totally agree Jim but when a member asks for an opinion and another member gives one...what gives when a 3rd member jumps all over them criticizing their opinion(just that..an opinion) that was solicited? In other words if a person asks what is my tiller handle worth? I say it is usually in the $40-100 range, what are the rules when another member jumps in and says I am stupid/crazy/dumb/whatever for even suggesting that...It is worth $XXX all day long? Can I retaliate(with proof of course or some sort of)?

Nick--I am certain that the gentlemen who participate here will be able to avoid the sort of little dustup you describe.

To quote that famous gentleman "Sir Rodney King",
"Can't we all just get along" ??

As long as some of you apply different rules of conduct to others then you do to yourselves nothing will ever change.
I suggest a fresh start.
Forget any preconceived opinions and or judgements and take the posts for their face value.
Some of you would give your "enemies" a hard time for posting the winning lotto numbers in advance of the drawing.

jimh, you allowed this forum to deteriorate by allowing Friend99 to f with many well respected members who have been valuable contributors to this site for many years.
Friend99 as you're well aware is a recent member who chooses to remain anonymous (no e-mail contact), doesn't own a Whaler, and provokes endless fights and acrimony.
Jimh, while I truly appreciate your creation, nurturing, and maintenance of this site, I'm absolutely perplexed by your posting of these guidelines to the general membership, when all the problems have been orchestrated by Friend99.
It's perfectly understandable when members witnessing Friend99's abuse of other members to come to their defense.
Jimh, if you really want to solve this problem remove Friend99's posting privileges and delete his posts.
