Wow, I did not think I would get such a response! I came across this 1988 montauk and was just wondering what the general thought was on the price. Thanks to all who reponded. Would you believe that I just learned of a 1975 Montauk for sale 1986 90 Johnson and newer trailer for $5,000. Have not seen it yet, Is the 1975 hull the older 16.7 or the newer 17 hull?

Its the older hull. The hull changed in 1976. By the way, are you going to pursue that 1988 Montauk with no motor? I got a call on it (I think its the same one) and may have someone interested, if you are not.

Yeah, I think I am going to pass on the 1988 boat. There will be more in the future, It is just hard to find one in good shape.

Different hull and more harsh ride(all 17's are 16.7 but to answer your question yes it is the older style). Engine is worth maybe a grand, I would stick with the 88 hull and buy a 88ish engine for a grand or so if that is what you want for power.

Make sure you get current compression numbers on the engine. If your passing on the 88 hull because it has no engine. You want to make sure the engine you pay for will last a couple years.

Personally, I would take whichever hull is in the best shape and has the most original equipment. Many whalers will be repowered several times before the hull takes a nose dive, my current 1987 18 Outrage is on it's 3rd engine and the hull keeps shining.

And Ive seen Kamie's Hull and its a very nice hull indeed:)

Thats one Great Outrage:))Nothing shabby bout that 175 ETEC either:))) It's SWeet:)

Great example of what you can do with an older hull and new power:)
