Came across ’84 Montauk with a ‘90HP Johnson w/221hours on the meter. ’04 bunk trailer included in the $8,900 price. The teak looks as if it came out of the dealership. The rails and side mounts are real clean. No stress cracks, but there are few dings in the hull here and there, but no deal breakers. Seriously, it looks as if it was only driven on Sundays to go to the market to get milk. It’s cherry. However, when I put a moisture meter to the transom it read anywhere between moist and wet. The dealer said he hadn’t weighed the hull. Question: Is this expected on a 24-year-old hull; should I steer clear of this?

Also included is what looks like original Mills console cover and dodger - both in brand new condition.

A moisture meter is not the best tool to ascertain water in the hull. One indicator is boat weight. If possible, get the boat weighed. Remember to add the weights all the items other than the hull, rails and console.

Does the bottom have paint? Is the paint line at or below the stern transom drains? If it is above, she is sitting a bit lower and may indicate an issue. If there is a lot of weight (stern seat, batteries etc) in the stern, then that is the reason.

Are there any holes that are not patched?

Price sounds okay but pictures will help give a more accurate price. Location can also determine price. West coast prices higher.
