GLBWCC,

My neighbor Cindy is in need of a decent used outboard for her Montauk. Her current Yamaha 90 died and estimates range at the 2.5K mark to fix it. She has asked my to post here for possible alternatives in the 75 to 90 horsepower range. Her boat is an 87, so engine age is not all that important, however, it is preferable to have tilt and trim. There are after market T/T's so its not a deal breaker.

Let me know if anyone has one to sell.

They have not made larger engines without PTnT since the early 90's.

Van's Sports Center on Alpine in Grand Rapids always has used outboards, they have had a good reputation for years although company sold a few years ago - the crew is still there. I think used (they go through them completely and there is a warranty) 90s are about $3000-$3500. There is a web site but no time right now to find it for you.

Maybe she needs to think new and just bite the bullet - new motors are pretty awesome, turn the key and go.

Pat,

We talked with Lockemans at the boat show, but Cindy just can't swing the new motor this year, try as I might to get her to go with a new ETEC. They had a few used engines, but still too much. She may have found something on Craigs this weekend.

Thanks to all that posted.

Terry -

If she didn't find a motor on Craigslist, have her call Brian's Marina in St. Joseph, MI - he sells motors for clients/customers on consignment. it is hit/miss, but a possibility, and if she's willing to be patient and give her information to him, he'll call her when a prospect comes along.

I unloaded my 150 Merc Black Max this way and it sold in about a month.

Dave,

Thanks, I will pass it along to her. You planning on coming over to LSC this summer? What with the price of fuel, I imagine the 24 will get used up this season. Donna and I have even given thought of trailering up to the North Channel and doing a B&B for a couple weeks. With diesel above $4 now and heading to $5, I imagine the Chris will just run back a forth to the flats this year.
