I just purchased a used 2001 Evinzuki 50 to rig on a Stiper 15, and the engine came with binnacle mount controls (with keyswitch and alarm). Unfortunately, I need a side mounted control for this setup.

Is anyone out there in the opposite situation?

Thanks,

I have a 1988 Johnson 50 that I am converting from side console to binnacle. She works great but she ain't pretty. Let me know condition, or we can exchange pics via email. Thanks. zotcha.

Hi Zotcha,

Unfortunately, I don't think it will work, as the controls I have are set-up for the new (post 1996?) style System check with 3 plugs. I believe your 1988 is set up with the "big red" plug.

For anyone else following, the condition is very good, and there is also a trim/tilt thumb switch.

Thanks,

You can't put a binnacle on a stiper dash?

I could probably fit it on the left side (wheel is only knuckle's width from the windshield on the right side), but I don't relish the idea of having to operate the trim switch with my pinky. Also, if I put it up there, it will take up the space where the fishfinder is already located. To make it happen, the top of the console would end up being swiss cheese.

Sidemount is definitely the path of least resistance here. I can pick up a brand new BRP one on e-bay for about $200, but I figured I'd check here first...

Keep looking. I found a new in box Suzuki for $125 on E-Bay. Try marine surplus in Sarasota, they ship.

Thanks!
