I am looking for a 17 Montauk that needs new power. Optimally, the old power should be Johnson or Evinrude. I am looking for a boat in very good condition, 80's to early 90's vintage.

Where and how much are good things to know. Also what difference does the old power make if you are going to repower it anyway? The old wiring, tachs, controls, etc are usually not compatible or worn after 20 years anyway.

Tohs...I am in the Chicagoland area. I want to put an E-Tec 90 on the boat and its my assumption that it will use the same bolt hole pattern as an older OMC product. I am willing to pay whatever is fair for the right boat. Again, Excellent condition, no bottom paint, etc...

All engines are the same pattern except for some early Mercs. Another problem is many engines(even OMC) in the 80's etc were mounted in the blind holes. Basically what I am saying is even an OMC might not line up. Your best bet is to buy whatever and use a jackplate to accomodate if holes are wrong. Easier to drill aluminum than to fill and redrill your transom....better performance as well.

Older OMC controls, wiring harness, gauges, etc are NOT compatible with an e-tec which has all new state of the art stuff.
