Hi, I am looking to trade my 1986 Montauk for w/1987 70hp Johnson for a 15fter or possibly a 13. My Mountauk is completely turnkey and has a good Shorelander trailer. Reason for the downsize is I no longer have my tow vechile and my car can only handle a 13 or 15fter. Prefer someone close to Long Island unless you can come to me. Let me know what you have... There is a new rubrail installed on the boat now and a factory stern light.

If that is what you want to drive then I say go for it. If you really think yoru car can not handle a montauk I will assume you bought a Mini Cooper. Other than that, any car can handle a Montauk at under 2k loaded even if the manual says it should not. My friend towed a 18 jetboat with a LS5 BBC with a Vette. I towed a 6k lb 24' Baja with a 4cyl Toyota. if not going cross country, even my Civiv Htbrid could handle a montauk.

Toshgib, My 98 VW Jetta can tow it but its a strain and I use the boat almost everyday after work. Pulling it out of the water is a strain with the 5 speed. The Shorelander Trailer alone weighs 660 lbs. When I had my 13 it was a breeze towing and a 15 is only 200 lbs more. This is my daily driver and I cant risk blowing up the differential in the already sensitive VW transmission. Believe me, I love this Montauk, but right now it makes more sense for a 15fter. Rich

Yeah...ditto with Contender being she is almost 11 years old. You are going to have to buy a new car one day...why not now and keep the 17?

Over the weekend I traded the Montauk for a mint 77 15 Sport with a 2000 60hp Yamaha with someone locally. I received some cash and we are both happy.
