Given ever increasing storage costs, I'm considering downsizing to a classic Montauk, that I could fit in my garage. The only models I really like are the later years leading up to 2002. My question is, how likely am I to find one for sale with 4 stroke power? They sure don't seem to pop up that often. I've gotten spoiled with my current motor, and want to stay with a 4 stroke, or equivalent. I realize that the classic Montauks with 2 stroke power are nowhere near the time or need to repower, but there is always the exception. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Being 4 strokes have been around now for over 10 years, they are becoming quite common on used Whaler transoms for sale. I sold mine 2 years ago and it is up for sale again but 3k miles away from you.

Yo Jock,

Jim/boatdryver has a real nice Montauk/Honda 90 4/s for sale up in the Bay Area. I hitched a ride in his boat at last year's rendezvous (the day after your heroics) and she ran like a top. I haven't seen his ad and don't know what he's asking, but the rig is sweet.

Hey Jock:

Here's a picture of boatdryver's classic Montauk with Honda 4 stroke outboard. ?action=view¤t=DSC_6120.jpg

I think the boat is on consignment at Guenter's.

Give boatdryver a holler.

Hey Jock,
I know this is older than what you may be looking for but
the 90 ETEC...

The boys of Strike3 are always happy to spend someone else's money. Maybe you should buy this one, Tony?

Hey Jock,

I second (third?) the idea of Jim's "Irish Jig" if you are in the market for a classic montauk with 4 stroke power. I have seen it many times in person with its previous owner in Nor-Cal and it is a sweet rig!

I too sold my 25' Outrage Cuddy for similar reasons and for lack of use. Now I am down to a 17 Montauk with a new Honda 90.

I will keep my eyes out for a re-powered montauk for you.
