i just had an interesting exchange with a guy named victor who had a 18 outrage with a 150 merc listed on ebay. i agreed to buy the boat yesterday and made plans to go up and pick it up on friday, tomorrow. he was very nice on the phone and agreed to send me a lot of pictures of the boat so i was sure i wanted it. he told me the boat is perfect. today he called and said that he has decided to sell the boat to another guy from my area for the same price. 10,500. when i asked him why he said that he was afraid i would back out of the deal because i told him i was going to compression test the motor when i was there. victor is trying to sell a boat for top buck with a bad motor is what i suspect. if you are going to buy this boat, beware of victor, he is not an honorable man and does not keep his word.

The other buyer might not show up. Some posters have written that you should show up with cash in hand immediately to prevent this type of scenario. In the future, I would just show up with a compression tester and not announce this before hand.

I had made plans to drive 7-8 hours to buy this boat. I am in Cleveland, oh and he is in the u.p. of Michigan. Not exactly a chip shot. He was so excited to sell the boat and seemed happy that i was going to buy it, that i never expected him to flip flop. He offered to send very detailed pics, told me to bring a moister meter if I wanted, just went out of his way to make me feel good about the boat. Then, the flip / flop. The day before he even encouraged me to bring the compression tester. I wasn't going to spend 14 hours in the car to have him refuse to sell me the boat.
