I went to see a 1972-1975 ? 17 Whaler yesterday. The owner has owned the boat for 15 years, however he is not sure of the model. All I can say it has the center console of a Newport( low seats in front ) however it does not have a cap that the Newport has. The railing in the bow is very high and also has side rails, all in good shape. It also has blue canvas on the console.
The motor may not be any good,V4 1988 Evinrude. The tailer is fairly new and in good shape. Boat is solid, but really needs a good cleaning.
Buyer is asking $3500. or offers. I was going to offer $2500. max.
Thanks,
ED

Just what I was thinking, it would keep me out of trouble. Could this be a Katama Model I'm looking at ?

Sounds very much like a Katama, could be a Minot, but I don't think the Minot had the canvas windscreen.

Thanks everyone for your input.
The owner is going on vacation for a week,so no chance for photos. The boat is in his shed.
As I mentioned, the hull is in good shape and solid as far as I tell. Also the trailer is fairly new and in good shape. So is $ 2500. a fair price for this boat?
The boat spent the last 13 years on a mooring in front of the owner house.

The price sounds very reasonable if the hull is in good shape with only cleaning and a little tlc needed.

Sounds like you will need to repower, so the engine has essentially no value.

Good luck.

Quahog03,

If it doesn;t work out with that deal let me know if you are interested in this rig.

It is a 1970 16' model. It was once a Katama but has been modified and is now a CC. The motor is a 1993 Yamaha 90 HP.

Turn key package.

Let me know if you are interested and we can talk further.

Erick,
I will be posting an ad with a price soon.
I really haven't decided on a price yet.
If you want to make an offer please go ahead.
You won't insult me I just might not accept your offer if I believe it is too low.
Otherwise just wait a bit for the new thread.
Cheers.

p.s. Nice VWs.

The owner will be on vacation till 8/22/08. When he gets back I'll have a second look and make an offer. I'll post my results and pics if I buy the boat.
Thanks again,
Ed
