2002 Boston Whaler Dauntless 16'

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31270& viewitem=&item=250282091449&_trksid=p3907.m29

Seems like a good price, with the reserve meet at 11.5k

How do you think this boat would handle adult water skiers (single ski) and tubing, with the 90 two-cycle outboard, loaderd three adults on board and full fuel?

I can only dream about that one. I can just taste it!
Looks very cool to be a family boat and all around good boat. Others with experience will chime in soon.

About ten years ago I sold Whalers at the local dealership and sold a bunch of them; it was a new model at the time. I put lots of hours on them on demo, and I loved the way they handled and cut the chop (very good for a 16 foot boat). Nice layout and quick to plane with 3 or 4 adults. I never pulled anyone, though, so I can't comment on that. I remember selling lots of Yamaha 100 HP 4 strokers on them; with that much weight on the transom (more than 350#), the scuppers were usually under water, which was kind of annoying. Otherwise, very nice boats, typical Whaler build quality and fit and finish.

I would not bet on hauling many adults and towing a slalom skier at the same time. If you want to be sure, go with the 115 HP. I think 2002 was the first year without the notch where the transom meets keel and it would have greater bouyancy that way...which is good.

I just sold a 2001 with a 90 hp and it was great for fishing, diving and skiing with a small load. It just lacked a bit of umph when I had an adult butt in every seat to the extent that it would not get on a plane one day.

For the sake of clarification, that was with an aluminum prop, full fuel tank and some heft family members.

Something doesn't look right with this.

First of all the 11.5K reserve seems way low to me.

Secondly, the ad states it has the fishing package. With this package I do not believe you get the bow rail. As expected, it is lacking in in the first pic. In the rest of the pic's there is a bow rail.

I would definitely contact this seller to discuss the condition boat before placing any bid. Go take a look at it and make the bid conditional upon a satisfactory hull inspection if that is possible on eBay.

Good luck.

Correction, the bow rail is missing on pic 8 of 8.
