Author Topic:   1998 Outrage Guardian - soft floor?

I found a Guardian and the owner said the boat is in good shape but the floor is "a little soft." Wouldn't that mean foam problems? Is it repairable?

I'm guessing it's 20' since it has an Evinrude 250 on it.

Thoughts on value?
Thanks
Greg

It's a 20' Guardian. Said its the deck not the hull. Aren't they integrated?
Thanks for any help

Depends on "Where" on the deck the soft spots are located. If in the center portion, it is removable and repairable...and no foam.

With a 250HP, I'm guessing it's a 22' Guardian? What year?

Roughly $1 - $20,000+.

Some more info on the boat would go a long way.

Does the boat still have the OEM seating and seating/console?

T-Top? Rear crash bar? Stern chaf plates? Full width splash door? Is there a dive door?

Is the boat missing any OEM hardware and / or have any OEM parts been altered?

Where has the boat been used during it's life?

Where and how is it stored?

What is the condition of the exterior? Shinny, dull, scratched and full of repairs? Any bottom paint?

What is the condition of the interior? Are there and spider cracks or UV crazing? Any areas of repairs or unsealed holes?

What condition is the transom and cap in? Are there any cracks forming?

Are there any cracks around or in the splashwell area?

What condition are the brass thru hulls in? When were they last replaced?

What year is the motor? DI or carb'd? Estimated Hours? What overall condition is the motor in? Does it run? Has it been compression tested? If so what where the numbers?

What props came with the boat?

What size does the boat have a fuel tank?

Have the fuel lines been replaced?

What does the boat have for electronics and what are their vintages?

Is there canvas? If so so what and how old is it?

Is there a trailer? If so what year is it? Aluminum, galvanized, or painted? Bunk or roller? Do the lights work? What condition are the tire and bearings in? What condition is the bunk/rollers in and what about the winch?

Any photos?

Repairing the deck can be a major undertaking. Jeff (above) knows, as do I. We went separate routes on the repairs, but if you want to just replace the deck, if it's still available from Whaler, it will cost about $2500. If you do it yourself it will cost considerably less, but you will be taking serious time to do it.

As Jeff mentions - it's almost impossible to give you a value without more information, including compression numbers on the motors, etc.

What is he asking at this point? That may help put it in a ballpark we can work from once we know the other details that Jeff asks above.

That boat looks to be in pretty good shape! The trailer alone is likely worth about $1,500.

Has the seller put a starting price on it? I think you can go as high as $9,000 and be in pretty safe territory. Remember, the floor needs replacing/repair. The motor is unknown, but let's assume it's in good shape for now.

With the market where it is right now (in the tank), you should stick to your guns and stay on the low side.

Looks like a beautiful boat. It looks like it hasn't been used too hard. It's worth whatever you're willing to pay, and whatever the owner is willing to sell it for.

Agree the boat "LOOKS" to be in good shape. I am surprised it is still for sale. I first saw it listed on Craigslist about a year ago now so I wonder what the problem is. The one thing I would do is pay to have the motor professionally gone through and inspected.

Just wondering if you bought this boat?
