This is a practically new, one owner, 1983 engine, 20" shaft, stored indoors since first put in service in the summer of 1983 on a 1975 Boston Whaler. Engine has less than 50 original freshwater fishing hours on it, from only one short summer on northern Lake Michigan in Kewaunee WI, and has been stored un-used since 1983. It looks like a brand new engine, glossy original paint (perfect condition lower unit just repainted with BRP paint) and runs the same, with 150# compression in all three cylinders. Never worked on, torn down or re-built. Engine is all white, with a thin red stripe. The Johnson graphics of this particular year are still modern looking.

Because of 25 years of storage, I took the engine to a long time OMC/BRP dealership for initial start-up, and for a service bill of $500, they removed and cleaned the carbs, with new carb kits, did a link & sync, installed new water pump and plugs, certified the compression, and tested out the whole engine while running. Mechanic said the engine was basically brand new. This engine does not have Power trim, and VRO oil injection was not yet available on this engine.

Old early-1980's Johnsons in this like new condition are almost impossible to find, and this is a one of a kind. It is a perfect engine for a 15-17' Whaler. Includes the key ignition harness, brand new never used OMC remote tank fuel line and fittings. Also can give you the original OMC 17" non-cupped aluminum prop and the slightly used OMC metal 6 gallon tank that came with the engine (if not previously sold).

A great deal at $1895, engine is now located in suburban Chicago. I may be able to arrange shipping if pickup or half-way meet up not possible, or if agreeable delivery arangements cannot be made. Here are some photos:

If interested, please post here and I will contact you.

Geez Larry, that thing looks like it came out of a time capsule, just like the Outrage it's mounted on. Good price for somebody who wants to repower a classic 15 with vintage (practically NOS) iron. Of course, you could always match the paint job and decals of one with the other (I'd go for the '74 scheme for period correctness), but then you'd have crossed over to the "light" side and we'd all give you a hard time here on the forum. Somebody is going to get a nice motor or motors.

This engine has been de-rigged from the boat, and is now stored at my Mercury/Yamaha dealership.

This Johnson 70 is really a beautiful, practically brand new engine, and belongs on an 80's generation 15' or 17' Whaler. A real find for an OMC fan, and a great economical deal for someone looking for a classic re-power. This engine will offer all of the reliability of a brand new engine.

The dealership told me they can bolt it on a Merc or Yamaha engine shipping box from one of their engine sales, and send anywhere in the 48 states.

Now it's $1795 to your door. Includes key switch 20' ignition harness and 17" non-cupped original OMC aluminum prop, and original, never used, OMC fuel line with end fittings and primer bulb. For an extra $40 you can have the like new OMC 6 gallon metal portable tank.

Thought I'd try once more in the Whaler community before putting this up on Craigslist and E-Bay.

I am seriously interested in your motor. If you still have it after 1-29-2009 I will contact you. I have an 1983 Montauk which it would be very nice to hang on the back. Unfortunately I can't deal with it right now as I leave for vacation tonight and wont be back in town until the 29th. I will contact you then.
