I have a 1980 Montauk 17' in what others tell me is great shape. It has a mid 80's Merc 90 Hp & 7.5 kicker along with Ez-loader trailer. The boat is in very clean condition and ran fine, until the lower unit went out on the 90 hp. Motor still runs although it is older and I am not sure it is worth putting the money into repairing the lower unit. [Says he may decide to sell it.]

If it is too small then upgrade instead of repowering. A used lower unit for that will be under $500 and worth every penny if trying to sell.

I might be interested in the boat as you have pictures?

Sorry...I just looked at your address....I thought you meant DC....the state of Washington is a little too far for me. My apologies.

Do not repower the boat if you intend to sell it; that is a money loosing proposition.

I will buy it if the price if right. Feel free to send me some photos of it.

I've been looking off & on while I knew I was on borrowed time with the lower unit. I haven't found anything convenient yet. Yes it appears to be the forward gear has failed.

Can you provide me an e-mail & I will send you photos. The magical question will be "if the price is right". Running I would guess this is worth about $6-$6.5K, repowered it would probably be $14K ish? In its current stage I'm not sure.

I know I'm new, but I'm mature, honest, and not a flake (in a relative sense, I guess!) I'm looking for a 90 hp Merc and it would suit my character - and my wife's stubborn refusal to accept my need for speed - to fix a broken one. Just can't convince her to agree to a new model.

I'll be in Tacoma for Christmas to visit family. Maybe if Tom buys the whole kit, or if Greg wants to sell just the motor, one option is to unload it to me. "If the price is right", of course!

Hello Greg,
If you are interested in selling, please send me some photos when you have the time. I'm willing to buy it as is. Thanks.
