Thanks, I'm still trying to decide on a couple Montauks ( one is a Newtauk) for 8k each or maybe thinking of stepping up if the price is right. |

That boat was capsized in the surf in early 2008 http://www.whalercentral.com/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=5494& pid=32683#post_32683 |

Thanks guys, This site sure is helpful. I will probibly stay with my first choice of a Montauk. Anybody need any tips on big game fishing, I would be happy to help. Ran a charter boat here in Kona for 25 years. |

Welcome to this great website, koaman. I note that you're a woodworker with an interest in koa. My brother-in-law is a luthier who has lived and worked in Anahola, Kauai'i for the past 35 years. He builds guitars, ukes & the occasional violin and cello from koa, and in fact has a government grant to grow koa on his land, and has dozens of huge logs drying under his workshop. I can hook you guys up if you're interested--drop me an email. Most of my wife's family either lives on Kauai'i or was born there, so we get over to the Islands just about every year. Tony How are you planning on getting your Whaler over to the Big Island? I've heard that it's costly. Also, have you hooked up with your neighbor and CW member Rene/LuckyLady? She's a great source of information about Whalers. Maybe she'll see this thread and check in. |

Thanks for that Tony, I sell a lot of Koa and Mango to luthiers. My family roots go back to Kauai and have family land in Anahola. As we say over here " small world - big island". The price to get a 17 whaler over here is about $3500. and about $4500. for the outrage. Have not heard about Rene/Luckylady but have really enjoyed this website. I ran a 50' Hat for a long time and just sold my 13 Whaler so I'm looking forward to getting the Montauk or Newtauk. Aloha, Bob |

My Dad has had time at KK1 and KK2 for years. I remember the slippery slide, it's been so long. Super neat area you are in. Good boat hunting, John |

Koaman, I have seen some nice Montauks for sale here on Oahu. Have you considered purchasing one on Oahu and putting it on the Young Bros. barge? |

Thanks Perry, I keep looking on Craigslist but haven't seen one come up yet. There is a Currituck on Oahu but thats all I found. I appreaciate if you hear of one, the shipping would sure be less. Aloha, Bob |
