Just wanted to see what everyone thinks is a fair asking price for this boat with a newer trailer & an older motor. Been sitting outside in the northeast weather without a cover so it's pretty much restoration project. You know strip er down & build er up again. Belongs to a friend & I don't want to offend him. Hasn't run in quite a few years. Thanks.

For starters, if it's a '68 it's not a Montauk. If it's 16'7" long, it's one of the "smirkless" Montauk precursors, of which there are many variations. Post some photos here and we'll all try to figure out the exact model and give an approximate valuation, depending upon the quality of the pix, motor type and history, trailer condition, etc, etc.

If it is a good friend, I would have a conversation about whther he wants the boat anymore. If it has been sitting around for several years, outside, with no cover, and it needs a bit of work, he may suggest a very reasonable price. You may be doing him a favor by taking it.

If he had no plans for it, I would tell him I would like to make a project of the boat, and ask him what he would want for it.

I would expect you could come to an arrangement that would be agreable to both of you.

Good luck. You may be surprised.

Yeah I don't see how you can offend a friend. Ask him what he wants and either say ok or no thanks. Do you have ANY idea what it is worth? I mean like $500 or $2500?

Hey, thanks for the advice. You're right I'm sure I won't offend him. I've seen others in this area for around a $1,000. I'm sure this will work out.
