I have a 42' length of very slightly used red insert, removed from my 19 Outrage. It is long enough to do a complete installation on a 16/17 Newport, and is in remarkably good condition, as you can see in this photo: It is original from the factory in Oct of 1974, and the boat was stored indoors since new, so there is practically no fading at all. Additional restoration work can be done acorrding to Jeff's post here: http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/016569.html . $70 to your door in the 48. |

I am interested in the Red Rubrail-I have a 1981 Newport with a very faced red rubrail. Are you sure that it would fit the Newport? I have heard conflicting reports about the cross section being different. I will definitely purchase it if we can verify that it will fit-which should not be difficult to do. You may already know that since I gather from reading your postings that you have vastly more experience with Whalers than I do. Thanks for you reply |

I sent an e-mail to Cliveous. I just did some testing on the surface of this rubrail, and found that Jeff's recommendation on using #400 grit wet sandpaper is too aggressive, and dulls the surface. So I switched to #1500 grit, and found it does a great job bringing it back. Then I followed up with "KIT" brand Scratch-Out (yellow bottle) and it shined up beautifully, like new. No other treatment needed. |
