I've come across two Newports, an 87 with an 03 Johnson 90, and an 81 with no motor. Both decent shape but both show their age a bit. I kind of like the idea of the hull and repowering on my own, but I'm uncertain. Any thoughts general values? Thanks, Mike

The 87 should clean up much better due to age. The Newport was the most expensive of the 17 fleet but for some reason sell for slightly less than a Montauk. I like the Newport better, especially the storage and rails. For under $9k the 87 sound slike a good deal. The other I would want for about $3k if decent. You could repower the 81 for pretty cheap if price is right. The 03 should be a reliable engine but thirsty. Weigh the odds.
