So, in my always ongoing quest to always find a 13’ Whaler better than the one I am currently using I ran across a very nice 15’ Sport a week or so ago. Long story short, I ended up buying the boat. My initial plan was for the 15’ to replace the 13’, but after spending some time out in the 15’ today I am not so sure a 15’ can replace my 13’. There were two things that I noticed immediately when I took the boat out. First, it is fast, very fast for a 15’ boat, too fast to send out with the kids, which I do with the 13’. Second, It is not as stable from side to side as the 13’ and I really like the stability when fishing in a 13’. I guess this is the price paid for the better ride. These are both things I knew about the 15’ before I bought it, but this boat was too nice to pass up. Now that I have the boat I realize that the 13’ better suits my needs and I thought I would see if there is anyone here looking to trade up from a 13’ to a 15. The boat I have is an ’81 Sport with wrap around rail and seat back, powered with the original Mercury 70. It is in fantastic condition, all stock, good gel coat, no bottom paint, original wood with 10 coats of varnish, etc, etc. This boat looks more like 28 months old than 28 years old. I am looking for an all original classic 13’ in similar condition. If you have such a boat and would be interested in a trade, your boat plus cash for my boat, please contact me. I am going to try to take some pictures later this week to post for those interested.

Thanks,
Kevin

Don't do it...you will regret it. One forgets how rough a 13 rides after they have sold it. Repower with a 40 until they get older.

Because several have inquired about an outright sale the boat is now listed locally for $7500.

Thanks,
Kevin

Last chance. The boat goes on ebay tomorrow, no reserve. I also have new detailed pictures. I thought for sure that someone here would be interested in this boat...

Thanks,
Kevin

Don't do no reserve, you will get slaughtered in this economy. $7500 15's are hard to find in that condition and hard to sell, especially now. I doubt mid $5's on e-bay.

Pictures are here.

Not sure what the opening bid will be... I guess the market value of a boat is the price which one is willing to pay and another is willing to accept. I thought $7500 was a fair price for this boat.

Thanks,
Kevin

I have a 13' 1970 Whaler with a 40 hp Mercury 1973. Both are in excellent condition. The boat was sitting in a garage for the past 20 years. The motor was completely redone this year for approx. $1,000. All new wiring, gaskets, parts, etc. It runs great. I have been using it the last two weekends. Trailer also. New seats, console, side rails, etc. I live in Maryland. Would you be intersted in this?

Nice boat, where is it located?

i agree MadHunt, just don't want to see you get burnedd if it sells for $4800 or something. No reserve in this market is a buyer's game, not a sellers.

PS...that engine is late 80's early 90's, not a 1981. Gorgeous boat...you are crazy to sell it.

Start the bidding high like at 7k with a 7.5k buy it now, How can you get burned, Its a gorgeous boat and the motor is a late `80`s.

The boat is located in Richmond, VA.

So, how do I tell what model year the motor really is? There was an "82" in the serial number and I just assumed that it was a 1982 motor.

Thanks,
Kevin

'15s that clean are really hard to come by.... I've read in the past about people limiting the throttle to make boats safer for kids. You'll regret selling its sooooo clean even the motor looks like new. I'd kill for '15 as clean as yours!!

Beautiful boat. I'm not crazy about the snaps because Mills offers the gunwale clips but other than that the boat is perfect. Personally I think by the time you find a perfect 13 the kids will be old enough the handle the 15 and you'll be wanting to trade up. 15's like that do not come along very often. Get a babysitter and take the 15 out yourself!

If you can't hold on to two boats -- since you just bought it less than a month ago, whatever you paid could be the reserve. If you paid a lot, just shave 10% off and take a chance the final price will be more than you paid.

After some consideration I think I am going to list with a reserve. The reserve will be something less than the current asking price. I am also going to list with a buy it now that is more than the current asking price, due to among other things the new information about the motor being much newer than I had originally thought. I was wondering how a 27 year old motor could look so good...

Thanks,
Kevin

The reserve has been met! Only two and a half days left before the auction ends. I think someone is going to get a great deal...
