I’m in the market for a 13’ Whaler and live in Richmond, VA. We have a larger boat that has seen little use this summer since I herniated a disc in my back and am not up to the rigors of the launch/retrieve process of a big boat. My family is dying to get on the water though…especially my little ones! Here’s what I’m looking for:
•Overall, a clean and generally stock boat as it came from the manufacturer. Side steering console, mahogany seats, etc. Not a showpiece but not a boat with a pedestal bass boat seat up front and a captain’s chair behind the console, and gouges all over the hull, if you get where I’m coming from.
•60’s through 80’s hull is fine but would prefer an early 80’s hull. I want no part of a boat that has waterlogged foam.
•40hp later model 2-stroke RELIABLE engine. I want to be able to pull a tuber/skier but it’ll be a kid boat so I want no more than 40hp. I would really like to find a boat with Yamaha power.
That’s it. If the mahogany finish looks terrible, the hull is completely oxidized with some scratches & scrapes, etc. I don’t care. I’m happy to get a boat back to its prime (cosmetically) with some elbow grease if it can hit the water ready to roll this summer.
Let me know what you guys have or if there’s some good craigslist inventory in your area. Willing to travel 200 miles or so for the right boat. Thanks!

If you change to 700 miles there is what you want in Michigan
for a decent price.

I live in Richmond too but I'm not selling. A guy had a very nice 13 earlier this summer on Craigslist. It was a late 70's model with a new motor. Try a program such as www.searchtempest.com and maybe you can find it. He advertised several times and was keeping the boat in the Northern Neck. I remember it appeared to be an excellent deal.

Yep, that's exactly what I'd like to find a little closer to home!

Thanks for that search tool, very helpful for consolidating the CL results. I could not find the boat you mentioned...I'm sure it's gone if it was a great deal like you mentioned, however, if you come across it again please let me know.

I'm in Nashville, TN. That's a little out of your driving range, but we could discuss a price reduction to have it shipped to you on flatbed.
