I have a chance to buy a garage kept 73 21' outrage with twin '73 65 Johnsons. I have yet to sea trial, not sure of ride or engine condition although they have been rebuilt. Owner is asking 10K, opinions please. I will sell my '84 17'Whaler super sport to purchase this offshore vessel.
Outrage hull is clean with only a few scrapes, pretty original, reverse seat and console are in great shape,

Thoughts please

Not sure if this will help, but 21' Classic outrages with new power in the Houston, TX Area go for $20,000. So that is with 10,000 motor. This is for boats that are 9 or 10 out of 10s. Boats that have been restored. They are so rare that people ask whatever they want for them.

On the flip side of this, if the motor are freshly rebuilt they still do not have much value, so you are looking at most of the cost going into the boat.

A fair condition 21' Outrage classic around here will go for $5000-$8000. This is with a good trailer of course

Like everyone says, you pay what you think it is worth to you, but I would think that if this boat is just in fair of OK condition, that is too much.

Down in Kemah Tx, people spend $20,000 restoring these boats at Orlandos Fiberglass and then repower with brand new outboard.

If the hull is clean, no spider cracks and crazing etc.... its worth every penny of $10k in my opinion.

I will be stating that if the model is as stated;
Been garage kept;
And that you are inclined to accept using the twin outboards;
The 10 Ks will be seen as a good ballpark figure to start with.
A close inspection should tell you the story.
Will you sail her as is?
Or will you need to refit some aspects and therefore have to invest further?
I have seen a similar unit with a number of updates done that did sell within six Hours for the very reasonable sum of 14Ks..here.

Take a few pictures for a more in depth assessment.

My only concern is do they have PTnT? With 130 powerhead rated hp, low 30's is gonna be it I think. $10k if REALLY nice and original. You can find repower specials for half that.

Sounding good so far. I will have the boat at the house next Tuesday for my inspection. The engines are old and repower within the year is anticipated. Meticoulous owner who has just gotten older, boat not out of garage for 10 years! I see new electronics, fuel tank polishing, trailer lights as the 1st project.

Thanks again

If going to repower within a year it better be mint for $10k.

Toshgib,

Not sure what PTnT is?? Please clarify. Owner say max is 33MPH and prefers 16-20 on ocean runs.

This is great, thanks for the responses, can't wait already have a buyer for the 17" SS

Just had the motors looked over, trusted mechanic says $1700 labor and $500 parts for the pair of 1973 65HP's that have sat 10 years just to get them running maybe for a season.

I am renegotiating from 10K to $5K and will repower, the boat is in very nice condition. Electronics are antiquated so new will be needed and will add a T Top.

Mechanic says Suzuki DF140 HP installed $13,000 including class work where old motors sat and all console work.

All thoughts welcome and needed please...

Put the boat in the water and run it up the ditch a few times at 1/2 speed and if you like it get it ,, than run the motors till they fall off and if thats in 5 or 8 years than re-power,,re-power re-power re-power,,That's crazy

You will have to make up your mind as to the purpose of your newest find..
Will you keep her for the long run
or will you resell her for a future consideration?
If you have her to stay;
A repower in to be done sooner then later.
And unless that you are out of the average budget;
A sizable amount will need to be spent in repowering your Outrage.
Again, budget will dictate of your course of actions.
If I was in your shoes, I would keep things on hold until I can make a choice of my next power and move forward.
I have found that there is really no end thus far as the constant updating and investing in the parts of my Whaler.
