20' Whaler Guardian with Dive Door

Hi all - I'm using my Dad's CW Whaler account to sell my Whaler - here's what I have:

BOAT: 1990 Boston Whaler Guardian 20 with Rare factory-aluminum Dive Door, NO bottom paint, factory-installed stainless steel cutwater (keelguard), factory heavy duty aluminum gunwales, everything is heavy duty and well made. Not perfect cosmetically but she has it where it counts. Some dings, chips and wear in the gelcoat from use - one of the topside cleats shows heavy wear and has some some gel cracking around it but is solid, as are the rails. Nearly TURN-KEY BOAT, ready to fish and go. Leaning post, T-Top and electronics included. T-Top has new black vinyl top. Electronics include an Eagle FishEasy 320c, Cobra Ship to shore Radio with new antenna, a Clarion M475 Marine CD/MP3 player with two Bose speakers (one speaker is mounted to front of console, one is sitting in the console un-mounted).
NEW laminated flooring installed (had a few soft spots when I bought - yes, I have many photos of this being done - she is SOLID now!), tank cleaned while floor out, new hoses and new wires, should be good for a long time to come). Only a few things I know of mechanically that have given and still do give me some challenge: Bennett trim tabs have worked "selectively - intermittently", as do the new LED running lights I installed - minor stuff really...one of the dive door latches needs replacement, but neither latch is really needed - door doesn't move anyway, and I have a lockable stainless safety lanyard on it anyway.

The gelcoat looks shiny, and this boat is a pleasure to own and run - as a former Patrol boat (I was told it sat in dry storage from new until about 1996), it's really fun to cruise in as others take special note when it arrives on the scene!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this boat, and hate selling her, but life goes on. I've seen a few 22s with dive doors, but a 20 is a RARE boat in my experience, and the 20 is easy to handle, trailer, etc. have never seen another 20 with dive door for sale.

Top speed around 47mph, dual batteries, 77 or so gallon tank, oil injection.

MOTOR: 1996 Johnson 225 with SS prop and hydraulic steering, extremely well maintained, exact hours unknown but boat sat for years in dry inside storage, not put into use until years after purchased by the government; not salty but shows some signs of salt water use, runs super, compression testing or professional evaluation welcomed for serious buyer at buyer's expense, and I will deduct up to $500 for such an evaluation from agreed upon final selling price if we can reach such agreement. I purchased a new waterpump impeller just in case, but she pumps very strong with no issues.
The boat has seen mainly freshwater only while I have had it - I have only taken it down to the Panama City/Destin area about 5 times. I docked it in a freshwater lake over this past spring/ summer as we used it for skiing and wakeboarding about five times a month. The gelcoat still has a little bit of algae on the lower side from the lake but it could be removed with a little elbow grease (see pics). Once again, the boat has never had any bottom paint. The Pitot tube (plastic end for speedometer) also needs to be replaced as it caught a weed and broke off (about $6.00 and 6 minute repair)

TRAILER: Boatmaster brand aluminum, good tires, new spare. Has some rust on axles but overall in good useable (reliable) condition. Brakes disconnected prior to my purchase; pulls great, I use Ford F150 Supercrew with 5.4 gas engine. I can launch/load by myself, no sweat. The gears on the front Fulton jack for the tongue stopped working so I took it off (see pics). I have not purchased a new one – I will deduct the cost of a new one from the price.

REASON FOR SELLING: I am active duty military, and will be deploying in 2010, can't take her with me, and hate to store her....I'm just planning ahead. I'm in no hurry to sell, so am patient to wait for the right buyer that can fully appreciate this unusual and rare Whaler. It's a good one!

LOCATED: Enterprise, Alabama; I will consider delivery if not too far away. TESTING/RUNNING available close by in freshwater lake.

TERMS: $15,000 OBO. Cash and Carry. I still owe some money on her, so my bank still has the titles... getting these is a simple task, and I guarantee the buyer CLEAR title and papers in accordance with proper payment.

I would love to have that boat and sell my 18 ft Guardian project, but, needs to be this side of the Rockies.

Good luck with your sale.

Hi Towboater - Wesley's dad here - the 18 is a fine boat, I owned one for a numbers of years, and am now whalerless. I told him if it didn't sell not to worry (wink, grin)... I rebuilt the inside floor for him, and was very impressed with this boat in both structure, handling, and the rush it gives me to operate it. It's nearly one of a kind, I've only seen one 20 Guardian for sale with dive door in my life - they seem to be like hen's teeth, handling the water extremely well while maintaining the ability to travel, trailer and launch...Signed, the Olde Maverick

Greetings Mavericks and towboater,

In a past life I used Guardian 18's, a Guardian 20,22,and several 25's extensively. The 20' hull is my all around favorite Whaler hull (including the 22's and 25's I have used. They have the feel and sea keeping abilities of the bigger hulls but with a single 200 or better on the stern they have the quickness to move out of harms way, and the reserve buoyancy to deal with a load of water if you don't make it.

I don't know why, but the jump between the 18' and the 20' seemed to me the most significant of any increase in length between any of the whaler hulls I have used and I think the only classic hulls I haven't used are the 15' and Banana 19'.

I'd buy yours in a heartbeat if I could justify it!

Good luck with your sale and take care, Greg

If I had anything other than a 21 Commercial Impact, I would be all over this. Once you have owned a Commercial Whaler, you are SPOILED to the standard ones !!

Hi fellas - the olde maverick here. If by chance it doesn't sell by the time he deploys, more than likely I'll buy it - I really hate to see him sell it, and I've been on a budget here and wanted to hold the line as long as possible. I may "have" to make an exception (gladly) in this case as the Guardians are so rare, and I love the feeling this boat gives me to pull up in it - not the same as the other Whalers I've owned, as the Police/USCG feeling is "home" for me, if you know what I mean.

That said, I believe it may be sold, last I heard last week from my son there was serious interest from a fellow in Florida, but he couldn't show it to him (military things going on, too busy). We'll see...just don't see these come up every day, wish [I] could act now, but a few months more won't kill me (:> ..... winter anyway, cold as anything here in South Carolina, coldest I've seen it in years, not great boating weather. Thanks, Maverick sr.

I know of someone interested in a dive hull. Let me know if still available and I will get ahold of him. Thanks!

The fellow that was "anxious" to buy it now appears to be MIA. That said, it is still available. Thanks for asking, Mav Sr.

Good luck with the sale. BTW, what branch of the service is your son in and where is he heading?

He's Army, I can't say for certain where his next assignment will be, likely to be overseas.
