Really? I thought it was worth much more.

I was considering $1500. The pull start cord is still brand new under the cowl. Comes with electric start, and key, harness etc.

It is still a 1976 motor - used or not.

These aren't exactly collector's items (yet). If you store it for another 30 years, it may be worth $1,500.

The right buyer might pay your thought of $1500 but that's more than half the cost of a new similar engine. I'd probably pay $1000 if it fit my needs.

Less than $1000.

It may look perfect, but it should be totally disassembled and rebuilt before it's run. Sorry.

Many of the internal soft pieces will have dried up, started disintegrating and will require, at minimum, inspection to verify their integrity. But since you've taken it apart to inspect, it would be silly to not replace the pieces with fresh reliable ones.

You're not the first person to find a vintage outboard motor stashed away, and make the fanciful leap to thinking they've found a classic car or vintage airplane, or baseball cards or collectible whatever.

Also, I find that the Johnsons of the 60's and 70's demand far less than their identical Evinrude counterparts. The big white Johnson tub-hoods and then garish olive, red and black paint schemes are just not holding up as well as the blue schemes of Evinrude.

I have not taken a fanciful leap, in fact, I have not purchased the motor. Just doing a little homework before I make hasty moves.
