Anybody got any recommendations for a GPS? Looking at possibly a Garmin gpsmap 540s or 545s. Would like to stay with Garmin.

Any good online places to buy?

Thanks!

I have had good luck with gpsonsale.com. Seems to have good pricing and fast shipping.

I agonized on this question for months last year. If you like Garmin, go with it. I think it goes like this in whatever order at least for combos Raymarine, Humminbird, Garmin, (my order, rest can debate), and Lowrance but when I was shopping I was warned off Lowrance buy charter boat skippers and surprisingly sales people at places like Basspro and Cabellas (at the counter). They had some early startup issues with the new models but my bet is they have resolved them.

I chose Raymarine A series (57D) and have been very happy especially w/ telephone support and local dealer. I also have a Northstar that some rate very highly that I am planning to put on the 13.

Don't drive yourself nuts about it - check the forum. Garmin is good stuff and they make GPS for aviation as do some of the others.

I went with the Garmin 478 and have been really pleased. Built in maps, good color resolution, portable. Also, it functions as well for highway travel as it does on the water.

I bought the Garmin 545s and love it.
I bought a reconditioned unit off of ebay. It was like brand new and no problems.
