We, the "Strike3" partnership – Warren/WT, Tony/elaelap & Matt/Placerville – have made the tough decision and have decided to sell our sweet, unique 21-foot 1973 Boston Whaler "Revenge" (we don't know what else to call her, since she's the only one ever produced, according to Chuck Bennett--though an early photo from BW has her labeled in pencil as a "Katama II"). The boat has served us well for three seasons. We've put approximately 600 fault-free hours on the boat since we've owned her. We've kept the boat in a slip 9-10 months per year, and her little cabin has provided a great place to stay overnight when we've felt so inclined. Her Suzuki DF140 (four stroke EFI), which is still under warranty, gets her up on plane with ease, is economical, and pushes her along at 38 mph/WOT/GPS if we choose (which we almost never do). Bottom line: we love the boat, her unique character which never fails to get attention and positive comments from knowledgeable boaters, and her sea-keeping ability (we're convinced that the weight of her somewhat-bizarre prototype cabin improves her ride in choppy conditions, compared with the two other banana-hull Whalers the partnership has owned over the past 5 1/2 years).

The boat is turnkey right now, nicely cleaned up, fluids changed in the motor, covered and resting on her trailer for the winter, but we're keeping the kicker and our GPS/sounder (which a buyer would probably want to replace with one of his/her own).

Our reason for selling? A year or so ago Matt picked up a Guardian 22 Divemaster in good shape for a very good price, and we're now thinking about letting sweet old "Strike3" go to a good home (hopefully to a serious CW restorationist--the boat really IS a one-of-a-kind beautiful curiosity which should be brought back to her former glory). Here are some photos of "Strike3" for those of you who don't know the boat:

And here's the only known photo of the unique boat taken back in the day (provided to us by Chuck Bennett). Note that the cabin is an original design feature:

We're taking our time with this sale, and we'll wait a while to see the response at this website before posting on craigslist and e-bay. We truly love this wonderful, one-of-a-kind Whaler, and we'd just as soon see the boat go to a continuousWave member if possible. We're somewhat flexible and creative about pricing at this time – we're thinking somewhere in the range of $12K, considering the motor is still under warranty and the trailer (a galvanized Pacific twin-axle bunk trailer with brakes) is strong. We might even consider a partial trade if someone has a decent used 175-225 horsepower four stroke or E-TEC outboard to throw into the mix. Feel free to contact any one of us for more information; Matt might be the best place to start, since the boat is currently at his place near Sacramento:

One of the best days I ever spent on California coastal waters was on Strike 3. I remember how she could handle moderate chop nicely, and how quiet the Suzuki was. I think especially given the newness of the motor that $12K is a steal for that boat.

Well
I am sure that you and the boys
Don't actually have a need to make a "profit" on that one.
And I will venture that
I should rather think that
It would be nice to see that you and your crew may try somehow to break even with the time and numerous costs invested within this rather UNIQUE Whaler.
After all what price would a true collector put on such a arresting model.
It may very well be under priced at this state of the game.

Serge/Ritz,

I wondered what happened to you. Hard to mistake your free verse writing style, that's for sure.

Yeah, we're having trouble figuring out pricing as well (and we're certainly not going to make a profit from this boat--we've already profited greatly from it over the past three seasons on the ocean).

We think that the price -- whatever it turns out to be -- will be absolutely perfect for the right buyer.

Sadly we've had no strong responses to this ad from our CW brethren, so today we posted the following ad on craigslist/SF Bay Area:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/boa/2170243117.html

We've received three immediate Bay Area responses, but we'd sure rather see our old sweety go to a CW member. Feel free to be creative, guys and gals...we're in no hurry to sell this boat, and we're open to interesting offers from serious Whaler folks.

How has the offering of your unique model panned out?
Seems like April being just around the corner
The prospect of getting a one of a king Whaler like yours may very well be appealing to many.
I am curious to see how the story will end.

Serge,

We got a couple of nibbles, but nothing serious. I guess we're stuck with the old girl, and we ain't complaining. When we saw that nothing much was happening, Matt put "his" Divemaster back on the market, and it sold within a couple of weeks. We did some serious surgery on 'Strike3', cutting out a portion of the aft cockpit bulkheads and pushing the splashwell back and up, giving us another two feet in length of cockpit space (which actually works out to around 15 square feet of new space back there, and vastly improves the boat for our uses -- fishing). We fiddled with the on-deck back-up fuel tank (our main tank is below deck), and pushed it forward underneath the captain's chair, freeing up even more fishing space in the cockpit.

We're planning on splashing the boat this coming week, and getting her back in her slip before the salmon season opener, Saturday April 2nd. I'll take a bunch of photos about the new set-up and post them here...if I have time left over from catching, cleaning, cooking and eating all those beautiful king salmon ;-)

It is good to see that you and the boys are still very active and involved with boating.
There is no doubt that time spent on the water will be automatically added to your days on this earth.
The boat will eventually sell
And this to this special boater who wouldn't mind buying a one of a kind Classic like yours.
I have from reliable sources that
The Chinooks will be of larger size this year
And this in mid to late August.
Say hello to your team.

Serge.
