Starting my search for a 13' whaler complete with trailer and motor. In a perfect world, fresh water use in solid original condition. Power could be 25 to 40 horse, but needs to have trim and tilt. Thank you for any suggestions.

Thank you for the heads up, the 1972 with a 30 Tohatsu, Newport Beach, Ca caught my eye, Looks to be in nice condition, maybe just the angle of the picture, but the trailer looks to be for a larger boat. Has anyone looked at this 13'

In Southern California...

My 1985 13 Sport will be available soon. 40hp Yamaha 2-stroke that you can eat off of, it's so clean. I have owned I for a year and a half. It was fresh water only, owned by an elderly retired couple in landlocked Fresno, where I bought it. I use it in the ocean, but in the year and a half that I've owned it, I have not put enough hours on it to burn off even one whole oil tank full of 2-stroke oil. Most of my outings are less than a mile from shore and about a half hour of run time at part throttle. It's way too fast to go full throttle in the ocean. But I never let more than a month go by without starting it on the muffs and really, its more like once a week.

It's all original save for a fishing/casting stool screwed to the cargo hatch and some holes drilled into the wooden benches for cheap swivel seats. I removed those.

That's just an impromptu teaser. Gory details available offline. Oh yes, no hull damage or hidden repairs whatsoever. Galvanized trailer.

I have a 2005 13 Sport, purchased new, very little use, always stored inside, 13 Sport w/comfort package, 40 HP Merc with trim/tilt, custom made road cover, only used in inland lakes in SW Michigan. It's buried in my garage, will be accesible when it warms up a bit...

This spring I will be selling two of my 13's.One is a 1967 sport that I bought this fall, It is so fine I am going for the new interior and it has the original steering wheel and bezel.
The other is a 1971 standard model ( no steering ) red dot hull. It was owned by a local fire dept. The engine is a 25 hp yamaha 2 stroke with 2 seasons on it with about 25 hours on it. The hull looks like new inside and out from being stored indoors. No bottom paint. I have only used this boat about 6-7 times. Can't seem to find the time to use it with three other whalers. check whaler central's personal pages under 1967 sakonnets. Mine is under the heading north atlantic fleet. The boat's are in scituate mass.

leadsled, thank you for your response, the 67 sport, sounds like it does not have a current motor, do you have a functional trailer that would go with the boat ?

The 71 looks like a very nice 13' and I enjoyed the picture's of your Sakonnet, You may use my other email to discuss price for either boat if you like.

tohsgib had a good suggestion to weed out some questions. So, I am looking for a 13' whaler, first choice, with the blue "original interior", but open to the newer 13' tan interiors as well, looking to find the best hull first, the other components can be replaced. I am not in a position to take on a full restoration of the exterior, interior spider cracks and re-varnishing of the wood I can deal with. Fresh water would be ideal, but this whaler will spend about three weeks in the Maine waters so not a huge factor.

If the power is a 4 stroke it will need power trim and tilt, adding the after market T&T unit will add another 20 lbs to the transom so I will not go that route. I would consider an older 2 stroke without T&T due to the lighter weight.

I will need a functional trailer, I am willing to travel or have the boat hauler/shipped from any location. I am willing to pay a fair price for the right boat.

Well you are kinda screwed then my friend ;)

1) Ole blues with the bulkhead style transom are not the strongest and I would not put more than 25-30hp on one.

2) Ole blues even with the newer transom & smirk(late 71-72) are 15" transoms. 15" transoms do NOT have engines with PTnT due to fundamentals of the short shaft space.

3) Mooring a boat with a heavier 4 stroke and a 15" transom might prove to be ill advised if water can/will come over the transom or in short work get salt water all over your new junk.

4) Look for a newer 13' or a 1972 with a modified transom(good luck) if you want what you claim.

My 11 was a tender but the engine was on the Suwannee river its whole life. It is side steer and real sweet but probably not what you are looking for, especially in ME.

Both 13's have trailers without paperwork. The 1967 sport has no motor. I bought it because the hull was in great shape even though the wood was shot. The boat has not been used for about twenty years. I plan on buying a finished sport interior this spring. I cleaned, polished and waxed the hull by hand last fall and it looks almost as good as my 1971. I will try to add pictures of the 1967 sport to my personal page soon. I tried to email but either you did not get it or your response was rejected. Try leaving message for me at site on whaler central.

leadsled, thank you for this information, my email seems to be working fine, (brooksmac1@hotmail.com) maybe best to try again and give a ball park figure for where you are $$$ wise with these two 13" no need to get all juiced up if we are not close.
