Might be okay, but check out Kevin's beauty right below this post. I think she's still for sale.

My nephew is looking to get into a whaler & I thought this might be a decent start. I spoke to the seller and took a ride to check out the boat this morning.

This boat is appropriately priced if not overpriced. The boat is complete, but has not been treated very well over it's 42 years; it is in very rough shape.

There is heavy cracking & crazing on the cap, gunnels & rear floor. There are a bunch of soft spots & there are definitely some transom issues. The splash well holds water; the owner stated that this is due to mounting the tilt/trim motor. This is not a good situation with the amount of penetrations in the splashwell & has probably added to the transom issues (it appeared to flex while I pulled up on the engine). Interior cushions are junk. A bunch of the wood components are rotted or in poor shape.

Engine is in extremely rough shape. It kicked over, but is not long for this world. Heavy corrosion on everything under the cowling.

As I am climbing all over the boat, I have to listen to his tales of woe (health, lousy job, bad economy, evil brother-in-law, wife, stalker ex-girlfriend, etc).

The absolute kicker is that he proceeds to tell me that he is saving the boat for the first guy who called. He hasn't met him or taken a deposit, but he feels obligated to him for some reason. I really wish he had told me this prior to me taking a ride out to see it.

He apparently is having second thoughts on what he listed the boat for and is now having an auction instead. He tells me that he has gotten numerous calls on the boat and is going to continue to show it "because there will probably be a bidding war" and proceeds to ask me how much more I would be willing to pay for it. I told him I would give him the $2500 he was asking in the ad, and to let me know if the first guy in line backed-out.

Before wasting your time, ask the seller if this junkbox is actually sold or not.
