I'm thinking about selling my 2008 170 Montauk. I haven't been following the market and I don't see many for sale. Any guesses on asking prices for these boats? I see that a new 170 Montauk is nearly $31K through BW's website (using the "build this whaler"). I bought this boat new in July 2008 and it is "boatel" and garage kept. I don't have an hour meter, but I understand that the engine can be connected to a computer to retreive that information? Is that right? Chuck |

It would help to list the power it has. Does it have a trailer? bottom paint? Fresh or salt water use? Look around boat trader etc and try to see what similar boats are listing for. My quick search saw a range of $18-$24k asking price for 2008 models. |

There's a 2010 here in Charleston with a 90hp Merc 4 stroke and a trailer that's only been in the water once for $22K. I'm sure $20K would buy it. |

Thanks for the replies. The 2010 Whaler sounds like a very good buy. I was thinking $22K for my boat, but maybe that is dreaming. Guess I'll have to think about it a bit more or run an ad and see what happens. Mine has the 90 FourStroke, swim platform, bimini, console/seat covers and fishing package. Here are some cell phone quality pictures.

Chuck, There is nothing wrong with asking $22K for your Montauk. If it attracts no interest at that price you can adjust. This is not the best time of year to sell a boat so you may want to wait until early Spring. The 2013 models and pricing are available so depreciation should not be much more in the Spring than now. As I recall Annapolis is a year round boating center so time of year may not be a disadvantage. When I was boating in the area twenty or so years ago there was a ready market for Boston Whaler boats. Is Gates in Deale still selling Whalers? If so perhaps they would be willing to market your boat on consignment. Butch |

It is worth whatever a willing seller and a willing buyer agree on. |

Nice boat! Since I am always trying to find the perfect boat...currently moving up from a 13' whaler and down from a 22' lobster boat, I would be curious to know why you are selling. Thanks! |

I happened to drop by this thread. My email is cwillmarth@gmail.com if anyone is interested. IT is probably not the best time of year to sell a boat. This boat has the 90HP FourStroke engine. re: Why am I selling? Well, I'd like to sell my boat before we go over the fiscal cliff! But really, I'd like to get a bigger boat, though I'm not sure that I could afford a new Whaler. I like the 210 Montauk, but they want real money for that boat. |

I don't know if it helps, but I paid about $25.5K for my 2008 whaler 170 Montauk (w/90 HP Mercury four stroke and Karavan galvanized trailer) new in Aug '08. It had the "fisherman package", Northstar 710 VHF (factory install) and both covers for the console and seat. In July of 2010, it had about 85 hours on it and I was given $22.5K (ACV) by a Whaler dealer on trade for a larger boat. I had it advertised for about 2-3 months prior asking $24K and never recieved one email or call from anyone interested in it. When they offered $22.5 as either a buy or trade, I jumped at it. |

If I didn't know better, I'd think you bought my old boat. It is identical. |

I helped a friend buy a 2007 17 Montauk on ebay in April of this year. The boat was purchased for $17,000 and was one of few on the market not through a dealer or broker. It has the fuel injected 90hp Merc 4-stroke, bimini top, bottom paint, and little else. It needed a full detailing and a new coat of bottom paint. The engine had about 250 hrs and overall the boat was not pampered. Hopefully this helps, I think $19-20k is a good number for a very clean '08. Jeff |

http://priceonomics.com/boats/boston-whaler/170-montauk/ I posted a question regarding a 2003 170 Montauk price and someone replied with this great website. Maybe it will help you too. |
