I'm looking for an old Mercury outboard 50 hp. 70's vintage 4 cylinder inline with a serial number below 4357639. We're not in a screaming hurry, but would like to have this engine running again for a family gathering in July. Primary interest is in the ignition system, as I have another motor that is in otherwise fine cosmetic and working condition. Just thought I'd put it out there if someone has a lead on one. I'm willing to travel a couple hundred miles from Birmingham, AL and later this spring/summer, up the I-65 corridor all the way to Indianapolis, then I-69 to Lansing and I-75 to Michigan's UP (depending on timing). Budget for parts motor is pretty low, but depends on if it's running or not. We're also looking at reasonably priced, good condition used motors 30-50 HP, but would prefer to stick with the Merc. Zotcha recently posted about a used 40 hp that he just sold in SC, which would be a perfect fit, it was just a bit too far to travel, and while reasonably priced, was a little high on the budget for us (a little too new!) Thanks in advance. Dave |

Thanks but only some of the parts I need are available anymore, thus, my interest in a parts motor. That site and others are bookmarked, believe me! |

Any interest in a 35 HP Johnson 1978? It was rebuilt a year ago and runs well. I want to repower my 13' with a new Etec. |

Dave, that Merc 500 will be easy to find in any stage of condition from a parts motor to fully restored. All you need to do it visit an AOMCI(Antique Outboard Club) event. Check the link below. There are many chapters in Michigan. They meet once a month. Pick the ones closet to you, and you will no doubt find one sitting there for sale. Also put out a WTB ad on their free classified. You may even like the club enough to join and run that Merc on whatever boat you plan to use it on at their meets. rich |

Dave, I'm not a merc guy, so I don't know what vintage this is, but it looks awfully clean.... http://www.bdoutdoors.com/forums/check-out-my-boat/ 463867-my-ride-boston-whaler-25-a.html |
