Hey guys. Anyone out there have an idea what a reasonable cost expectation may be, or range, to get the engine back humming again - best case and a worst case? I have some interest in the boat. Many thanks for any guidance.

It is really going to depend on what happened, where the water went, and what the current owner did, if anything, afterwards.
For that, it sounds like you will have to call him and perhaps, have a mechanic inspect the boat/engine.

Engine was emptied and pumped with number 2. Dyed diesel! I have limited access to a computer. Stormed kicked my ass! My interest is getting my home in order. Boat was on trailer when sandy came . Bilge plugs were out anticipating heavy rains. Quite the opposite! High tides no wind . Boat filled with approx 6 inches of water. Not over the engine! Water DID enter via air intake! Just spent almost 8 k servicing engine and drive for the 2013 season . Drive perfect,electronics untouched. AGAIN HAVE AN OFFER, CALL ,COME SEE WE WILL HAVE COFFE AND DISCUSS PRICES! For all the genius Volvo techs that have written Reading comprehension! CALL. DO NOT WRITE WORKING ON MY HOME!!!!! Thanks for all the serious inquires. 631 456 1890 Rolf

Boat was rigged via rhode island engine. In R.I. Engine is now superseded by ,I believe a 235 hp unit.
